Hi folks, I recently got my hands on a Santronic 80 nozzle, I have always wanted a small nozzle for my Kirby Heritage so I decided to convert this nozzle to fit on my Heritage here's the result work's brilliantly.

Craig,

Regarding the small nozzle, don't forget you'll have to use some epoxy clay to make the nodule to jibe with the location of the Heritage's speed switch. Because I know you said that this is not an actual Heritage 13" nozzle but one from a '60s Kirby.

Ben, I added a small screw in to the back of the nozzle I managed to carefully get the right location using another nozzle as a template simply drilled a small hole tapped it and added the screw in works a treat.

Craig,

I also see that your standard 16" wide Heritage nozzle has the suction relief vent on it.

Yes Ben handy for when I'm doing the hall way carpet which isn't in the best of condition letting some suction out the machine it doesn't tend to lift the carpet like the other Kirby's do. The smaller 13" nozzle has one too but in green obviously with it being originally a Santronic 80 nozzle, does anybody know why Kirby did away with the suction vent? I have seen Heritages without it and never on anything newer.

Craig,

The Tradition was the first Kirby model since the 515 to not have a suction relief vent plate on the rug nozzle... the very first batch of Traditions produced from 1979 to early 1980 did have the plate, but around that spring the vent was done away with.

A few Heritage 1HD 13" nozzles also had the air vent, too... but as the nozzle option was rare, I predict only a handful of those got out with the vent.

Yeah my Tradition doesn't have the vent so I wonder why my H1 16" Nozzle has it then.

Craig,

I suppose the last owner made some holes to accommodate it using a Classic III nozzle as a template.

Ben, This particular Kirby Has been In our family since new, My Mother and Father brought it a few month's before I was born, this is the machine that gave me my childhood love of Kirby's when growing up. When I was old enough I got my own H1 I do know that this one didn't have the vent on the nozzle. A few year ago I took the original family Heritage back as my mother struggled with it and I have recently sold my second H1 to a family member in Scotland, I have asked my mother and She is certain that the relief valve was on it when purchased new in 1981, so could this nozzle be left over factory stock modified to fit H1s ?

Craig,

Maybe so... another rarity right there, then! Only time will tell if someone here in the U.S. has a Heritage I nozzle with the air vent on it.

Ben would this shed any light on matter a picture of the back of the nozzle?

Craig,

That is an all-original nozzle there... the rug plate latches and the speed switch nodule suggest why. So, I guess the air vent must've been an option on this model.

Craig,

I can only wonder if you'll start thinking about making a 13" wide Classic III and/or Tradition nozzle?

In this case, however, you'll have to use epoxy clay or some other material to lengthen the one lug that jibes with the arm of the speed switch used on these two models and the Classic Omega.

Merry Christmas.

Craig,

And when you do try to use some clay on the one lug, you should use just the right amount of that clay, just enough to make the switch arm travel down enough to turn the machine on with the low speed intended for cleaning carpets.

Craig,

I meant that if you ever make a 13" wide Classic III or Tradition nozzle, you actually have to make a lug that, when looking at the back side of the nozzle, should be just to the right of the left attaching bar lug.

I made a picture of what you'd do to find the exact spot for the JB Weld. The black spot shows where you'd make the lug. The groove for the pseudo attaching bar should line up exactly with the two other attaching lugs.

Of where you'd put the pseudo attaching lug on a 13" Kirby nozzle to accommodate the arm-type speed switch used for the Classic Omega/III/Tradition.

Craig,

I have acquired a real 13" Heritage II nozzle from Mark David Faryniak (marks_here) this past August. The brush roll that came with it isn't exactly in great shape, though; and even the belt was wrong since the roll isn't of the right construction for it.

No offense, but you are being REALLY picky & you should give marks_here some credit. You bought a USED 13-inch Kirby nozzle with a USED brushroll, & I would suspect that brushroll is probably original. OF COURSE it's going to have some wear & tear, what were you thinking?!?! And from what I can tell, this looks to be normal wear & tear for a Kirby brushroll from the 1980's....I have seen far worse than this before.

I think you should issue a retraction of your above statement & issue a public apology to marks_here for your comment....I would be demanding this from you if I sold you something & you made the same statement about the product I sold you.

Mark (marks_here),

I apologize if you thought I meant you any harm over the condition of the brush roll.

Rob (kirbylux77),

I wish I could edit my statement over that but I can't do that as a basic member. . . I have to be an upgraded member to do that.

The only way I can do that for now is to make an RFE (request for edit).

I have other pressing things I'm dealing with right now to even notice or address if my feelings were hurt or not but when I get the time it will be addressed, I don't know when but it will. Funny thing about us Cancer signs is that some get hurt easily but when your rising sign is Scorpio...it's totally different! Oh & there is a nasty sting
