I recently found an XL21 at a thrift store, so I took apart the base to unclog the fan chamber. However, I can not for the life of me get the brush roll back in. I'm not sure if I'm missing a part or someone installed the wrong brush roll, but this thing is not going in right. This is a really early Xl21 judging by the receipt, if that reveals anything. Could anyone help me?

Plastic end before pulley should fit over the metal looking agitator piece that you have in that slot on the base. The plastic brush support should then fit in that housing support slot.

Thanks for your response. That's what I thought, but I can't get the end piece to move back over metal ring. Is there any way to fix this?

Oreck brush

The bearing ends on this and many brushes have a metal shaft that presses into a hole in the wood dowel. It is possible that it has been pried away from wood to clean strings etc.If so give it a good 'bump' with a rubber mallet until the square black ends line up with slots in base.(Did it all fit when you found it?)
