On my way north to Sarnia and Pete, from picking up the forlorn Haleys Comet, on the northern outskirts of Chatham, I spotted a Goodwill Thrift Store sign from the hiway. It was open, well, there were cars out front anyway. The twingle commanded me to turn around and go back.

Entering the store, with barely a glance to either side - the usual racks of clothing and tables of dishes & vases - the twingle veered me over 3 aisles and straight ahead of me against the back wall was this!!! I doubt I was in the store more than 4 minutes and on the road again, heart pounding. $6.97 + tax.

Long story short:

Hoover Model 913, made in Britain, but rated 105-120 volts AC. Serial No E605226.

That's all I know. Believe the extremely thick and supple cord to be a substitute. It runs good with smooth motor rundown. The shiny grossgrain satin burgundy bag is a DVC Brand for Hoover and says Hoover in vertical letters. beater bar and brushes in great shape as is the bumper molding - no cracks. This is the heaviest vacuum I've ever lifted.

I adore the styling. Looks very much like a matching vacuum that Rosie the Maid on the Jetsons would use but of course it is much older than Rosie. As time permits you folks will tell me what more, or less, it is.

I'm really tired. Took 45 minutes to empty the car and gas up the car. Here's a closeup, in focus.

i love these. to my eyes very different from most cleaners of the era. love the brutish appearance. this is the type of machine a maintenance man would use in an office building lobby or movie theatre foyer. too heavy duty for the maids cart!

paging the Hoover Gurus! these models have an interesting background story.

couple months back i scanned the manual for this model. seven dollars was a steal.

I have one that Roger L. sent me - I love this cleaner. The sound is like no other...so authoritative, it scares the dirt away.

Enjoy your great find - $7 WAS a steal!

We were wondering why it was built in the UK and sent over here, any particular reason for that?

The Twingle is actually better than the Twizzle. It's interesting also to know that the 1940s looking heavy duty model lasted into the 1960s. What a deal for that little money!

Aha! I knew there was something familiar about it. Thank you Brett for directing us to the manual thread.

Of course, it's a man's vacuum...a very hefty man, at least as strong & sturdy as Olga, the Swedish Massage Dragon & Arm Wrestling Champ of the Cleanup Crew - arms the size of cabbages.

This thing is built for serious abuse while its sculpted form telegraphs armoured truck. The headlight shroud is a thick rubber bumper too for those head on collisions. It would have it's fair share cause this heavy duty baby has inertia once it's moving.

You really MUST find an original bag for this beast! It's huge!! Very big and fat, without it your poor 913 looks far too svelte and ladylike, hahaha!

Once upon a time I had the American version of this, the 91. It had a black finely-pinstriped bag with "HOOVER" in red lettering down the front. The bag on that machine was even fatter than the two above -- at its widest point, it was easily a foot in diameter!

Dave congrats on your new "brute" Hoover Commercial. These are big girls for sure! These were made from 6.18.52 until 5.12.69 when it was replaced by the 913-01. These were made in Brittain and shipped over here. I believe we made the cords, handles, and bags. I have a nice original bag for yours. When you visit you are more than welcome to it!
