Well, I posted here a long time back, but I forgot the account info.

I am still looking for the right vacuum to use in my custodial job at my church.

I think a Hoover conquest/Guardsmen will do beautifully-

Questions-

1. Will they fit between, and maneuver in the pews?
2. If I have the dust-cup model, will the bag leak dust everywhere.
3. Conquest, or Guardsman?

1) Depends on the space in between the pews. The Conquest might not, but the Guardsman should.

2) No.

3) I'd go for the Conquest. If you can't afford it, a Guardsman is a fine machine as well.

Guardsman!

The Conquest is a monster vacuum, don't let it near the drapes!

The Guardsman will serve you VERY well. I'd personally go for the full-length, non-dustcup bag, That dustcup would get banged up a lot and could damage the Pews, Whereas the Soft-Bag, non-dustcup model's Bag would just rub against them.

It's a machine that will serve you well. I still have my Hoover FloorMax (Equivalent to modern day Guardsman) upright from the 90s, Never skips a beat!

Other vacuums to use besides the Hoover uprights-Backpack canister vacuums are good for church cleanups-they can get in between seats and pews more easily than uprights. It always seems when I visit a church-they always have some sort of old Kirby in the place somewhere-A church member donated it to them when the member bought a new Kirby or other vacuum.Good ol Kirbys can work well in cleaning the church carpets.

I would recommend a 12 inc bagged guardsman i have a convertible (the 80s home version of a guardsman)and it is the best vacuum for deep cleaning carpets.

The bags on the dust cup models will allow dust blow-through after they get older. If you wash one of those bags, the blow-through will be enormous. Same comment applies to Sanitaire. If you buy replacements wholesale (HESCO), they aren't too expensive.

The Conquest is definite step up from typical commercial machines. I'd stay with the Guardsman unless you are going to be doing the Chrystal Cathedral. Especially considering the furniture (pews) areas that you will be doing.
