Another pair of Mystery Packages

This is the Vintage Vac Forum, so after it receives the full Mr Clean Magic Sponge Spa Treatment I'll chat about the mixer otherwhere.

Now, I don't know a damn thing about Fairfax other than I have admired their photographed forms and shamelessly coveted one as some sort of heavenly cross between a Filter Queen and New York Central's '20th Century Limited' Helmet Head Steam Engine for the 1939 Chicago World of Tomorrow World's Fair, (or was that the 1933/34 Chicago Century of Progress Fair?) at which two of them met head to head on a trackside stage.

Back to the point, dispite being merely set in a box with a few token newspapers (the hose thankfully coiled inside the tub), it arrived in superb condition with nary a dent or scrape. The label says it is a two speed Style VFX made in Welland, Ontario, Canada. Note also that the hose is solid red, matching the cord and both rubber circumference bumpers. This was a unexpected $20 win on eBay and the perfect minimal combo in that I have a big lot of orphaned red Kirby tools to go with the beast. Me much happy.

My question is can someone here approximately date it from it's Style number? It seems that Fairfax looks have not changed much until the newer ones that have modern add ons, a painted base and graphics on the side of the tub, that also appears painted (or plastic). This one is entirely chromed but for the small label beside the blower port. There is no paper bag with it but there is a snap-in cloth filter for the motor housing. The tub is spotless inside and out. There's not even a single paint splatter...imagine that!

Checkrate/Likes Hmmmm...I'd like to know how they managed to rip part of the outer wrap on the one I sent you. I also requested they put "Fragile" stickers on the box and I don't see that either. It is very cool to see what the package looks like once it arrives at its destination.

Checkrate/Likes The Fairfax is a basic utilitarian machine without bells & whistles by My Gawd, that shape gets me all squiffy in my special place. The large casters give me the impression it was intended as an industrial vacuum cleaner and I notice the new domestic versions have round ball castors in chrome shrouds. I want to maximize this spacely design. Spherical castors would compliment this shape so much better and I'll be searching for 4 so the rim appears to be levitated above the floor instead on perched over it. I'm thinking of those ball bearing castors that are in fact 1" D steel balls rolling inside a bearing race. I have them on my couch and they roll very nicely.

Checkrate/Likes *Squiffy* I love that term, "squiffy." Dave, did you find the little envelope with that part and the spring I mentioned? It should have been toward the top.

Checkrate/Likes Oh, I tore the brown paper getting the paperwork out the the envelope, Debbie. The only opening in your wrap was the square cut out over the address label. UPS may be a lot of nasty things but at least they did deliver the parcel as prepared. Of course, they just lost a lot more international & domestic business and I will be in touch with the Canadian Head Office in Mississauga to have my protest legally recorded. I will be demanding letters of explanation as well as the pertinant Company Policy under my business letterhead. :-)

Checkrate/Likes Dave, This fight is not over on my end. I signed up for that class action lawsuit, and I am going to call the store tomorrow and demand a refund be returned to you (not that that will get me far), and then file a complaint with the local BBB office. If they do not resolve the complaint initially, this will give them a black mark and they may offer the refund (I have to at least show I attempted to contact them). I have the names of the people I spoke with at the call center. I am also going to file a complaint with the FTC, and research other avenues as well. They have lost my business forever. But unfortunately, businesses don't seem to care anymore when they lose a customer.

Checkrate/Likes Oh, and that may not have been Deco Dan's packaging specifications, but Deco Deb has not failed me yet ;) although I was concerned a bit about the small bowl because it was closer to the top of the package.

Checkrate/Likes Chrome and red is an exciting color combination, can't wait to see it with its tools. The wheels on it look good, but artistic liscence dictates other. I bet it will look right spiffy and a lot more Deco-y.
