Ok so I'm needing a good inexpensive canister vacuum with a nice bare floor brush and good power nozzle. I'm looking at the Panasonic MC-CG902 full size bagged canister vac. Would anyone on here recommend it? It has all the features I want in a vacuum and looks like it would suit my cleaning needs quite nicely!

Definitely a good vacuum. It's the same as the first generation Kenmore Progressive. Also uses the four piece attachment set that was best. The dusting brush has nylon bristles, but if your Sears store has them in stock, you can get the horsehair Kenmore version there that will fit in its place. Also it will work with most Powermate Jr attachments, easily available on eBay and relatively inexpensive.

I've been trying to clean with only uprights the past four years and it isn't working...We live in a home with hand scraped hardwood floors, tile and three thick area rugs so I REALLY need a decent canister! There's also LOTS of above floor cleaning to be done since we have large baseboards and crown molding throughout the house as well as stairs, AC vents and ceiling fans. Definitely not an upright friendly environment.

I would recommend the Panasonic MC-CG902. It's a good design with 4 on board full sized tools. The one tool I was never keen on with that set is the barefloor tool, just not many bristles on it and they're very harsh so they don't dust well. However, with that machine having a standard sized hose and wands it's easy to get a generic 10" horse hair styled bare floor nozzle that will run circles around the included one. Also as Fanoffans mentioned this machine will operate a Kenmore PowerMate Jr. or also has sufficient airflow to run a turbo powered hand tool.

Another canister that is great is the Royal Lexon SR30020. Very strong airflow on this machine and terrific power nozzle. A fair bit more kick and I think a better cleaning power head than the CenTec CT18DX which comes on the Panasonic above, but the price tag is higher on the Royal as well.

This red Panasonic scored relatively well in Consumer Reports tests: "very good" in all 3 cleaning categories - medium pile carpet, bare floors, airflow thru the hose for tool use. I think it's even a Best Buy at about $300. Hepa bags are easy to find at all Sears stores as it takes the same bag as Kenmore Progressives. Change the dusting brush for the Kenmore horsehair version - it will fit the onboard tool storage slot no problem - softest dusting brush I have seen for the money!

And yes...though you can shut off the brush roll in the power nozzle to pick up surface litter quite well off bare floors, the universal size of the wand allows you to buy a nice soft bare floor brush for better sweeping of floors.

I hope Panasonic does not discontinue this great vac!

Thanks for all the info! I've pretty much decided on the Panasonic as I have a very nice bare floor brush already that I know will fit. I will also order the horse hair dusting brush since I do a TON of dusting! I'm going to put a little bit aside each paycheck to purchase the machine so it will probably be two or three weeks before I order it.

When I moved into my brand new house (that I'm currently still in) I bought the Kenmore version of this. Same Exact color as pictured....Looks identical!

I used the HELL out of that thing for two years and I LOVED IT!!!!

Unfortunately, it's LONG gone since the quick disconnect connections in the wand ended up shorting out, even though I turned PN power off before disconnecting...
