Surely he has to know that no one is stupid enough to pay over two grand for a restored Kirby 505! They're just not that rare. A new-in-box model 0 Hoover, maybe. But not a old Kirby. It took time and effort to list it. There's really only two possibilities: if he's a vac collector, his vanity and ego caused him to take pics of "see what I got". Probably a teenager if the seller is a collector. If he's not a vac collector, he's delusional about what old vacuums can bring. It's not a Lewyt Electronic or Whirlpool Imperial Mark 12 after all.

In 1973, I paid two hundred dollars for this Electrolux model V. Why? because I told a vacuum shop owner I'd meet his price. It was a stupid remark on my part, and all I got was the motor unit. That was the last time I ever told a shop owner, or any other seller that I was a collector.
While it's a nice Kirby, no vacuum is worth two grand, I smell a price gouger here! |

Hi, The person selling the Kirby is called Kent and he's a really nice guy from my experience. I believe he's semi retired from what I remember. I believe he had links with Kirby in the past but can't remember in what way. He sells lots of genuine Kirby spares at fair prices. He's done a good job on restoring that Kirby 505. Not that I would pay that amount for that particular Kirby. My guess is he will keep it for himself to put on display and just wanted to make sure no one was "desperate" for it that would be willing to pay big money for it. As some old Kirby's have gone for big $$ in the past. One not that long ago. Why 505s are not that rare as such finding "All" original ones is allot harder to come across. Especially with the original bag hanger cover for example. And yes I know Kents is not all as it was when it came out the box
As I've said before value is different from person to person. What one person will spend Big $$ on some one else wouldn't give you $10 for. I've spent some big $$ on some of my rare Kirby's and Scott & Fetzer machines. Worth every penny in my opinion and I've been very happy with my purchases. I for instance would not pay big $$ for a Hoover model O. I think some others on here would sell there grandmother if one came up lol

I must without, any and all equivocation, most heartily agree with James' wise statement. He definitely knows a thing or two, or three, or a whole lot more about ultra high end fine quality vacuums, and his collection is an indelible proof which can not be denide, and whomever may disagree makes me feel just like this.
