Remember when that idiot Jan rode her bicycle into the garage and ran into the framed picture of the kids they had made for their mother's anniversary present? Because she wouldn't wear her new glasses? Anyhow, while the boys are sneaking out in their good clothes to have the portrait re shot, Alice brings out the Electrolux tank to vacuum the living room. It looks like a metallic blue with the matching cord halo and a wrong floor tool. Any way we could get a magic screen capture from someone on that one? Hint hint Robert or Charles~Richard?

I don't have any Brady Bunch episodes on DVD and don't have cable or satellite. And I don't remember that episode. I thot Alice used a Hoover convertible.

She had a Hoover, I think someone mentioned it on AW.org. I also couldn't believe the Brady's couldn't shell out for an upright on this AMs episode. Robert had posted Brady washer captures on his site. It might show well on a DVD. Thank you anyway.

Hey Guys! Anyone remember the episode where Greg buys his first car and the kids use an Electrolux Model 30 to clean it up with. The vacuum was in a whole lot better shape than the car was, I can tell you that! Later, Trg

a look back at the Brady vac

I remember this episode, and the machine was probably a Metropolitan-rebuilt Electrolux due to the matching cord halo. The Bradys were using a Hoover Convertible to vacuum Greg's attic room in the billie goat as mascot episode. As with many sitcoms, different vacs show up in different episodes.

I remember the episode you are speaking of and Alice did use a Lux. I think there is another scene where she is using a canister to vacuum in the living room. Most of the time it was a Hoover.

Yes, thanks for all the feedback. Greg's first car was a '56 Chevy Bel Air convertible, and we're not supposed to be watching appliances and vacuum cleaners in these shows, that's why we have all the switcheroos! I love it!

oohhh that Alice!!

I think that ALICE was nipping into the hommade wine that Mr. Brady had out in the garage. She probably got a bit tipsy( and who would not having to deal with that Jan...ohh those kids..)and went to the neighbours house and borrowed Aun Bea's vacuum and forgot where she lived. Either that or she mugged an electrolux sales man!! Does anyone remember the episode where Alice actually does nip into the homemade wine, in the garage??

At this time three or four, one a Hoover Convertible, two and three, an Electrolux tank with a rebuild paint job and wrong floor tool, another Elux tank, and some kind of canister. I wrote in my Roll-Easy thread about the half colored Roll-Easy that Tony vacuumed Jeannie up in the colorized 1st season of "I Dream of Jeannie". Turquoise wheels, grey body.

Well it could be Alice had a vacuum fetish as well or Mike was a closeted vacuum collector amongst other things.

Thanks Robert, that was really fun to see. I had forgotten that poor Alice didn't even have the correct attachments for her Electrolux, gee you would have thought Mr. Brady could have afforded a brand new complete Electrolux for her.

Anybody remember when her name was Charmaine Schultz, otherwise known as "Schultzie," in a show called "Love That Bob," starring Bob Cummings? She vacuumed with a big wheel Lewyt back in those days. And by the way, is she still living?

Ann B. Davis is still with us, and thanks Robert, that's really great of you to post that pic of Alice. If anyone does have the colorized first season of "I Dream Of Jeannie", watch for that funky grey and turquoise Roll-Easy Sandra Gould is trying to use. I remember "Love That Bob" and I have a Wake Forest College monthly with a big Winston/Love That Bob ad on back, in color. I believe "Schultzie" is on the left.

The post about Alice and the wine was a joke, I just re-read the post. I thought it was a joke the first time I read it.

The pic of Alice from the Brady Bunch is a little fuzzy but it looks like she is using a Hoover floor brush on carpeting?

I don't think so, but Dualsanitronic says it was probably a Metropolitan rebuilt Lux and I guess rebuilds didn't always come with factory tools.

Yeah Gary, no wonder she has to stoop and grasp the lower wand. I stopped 'vacuuming' like that decades ago; let the suction and tool do the work. Almost looks like it was coming apart on camera so she had to hold it that way to get the shot.

Brady's vacuums

The Brady's only had two vacuums for the run of the show, a Hoover Convertible model 1020, and the above pictured Lux.
I have the whole series on DVD too.

Love the Photo Clips

Thanks Robert,

Given your resource, you are often the key to the nostalgia part of my brain.
I absolutely love seeing old photos and clips of "vacs in action."
I remember so vividly watching series like Bewitched and the Brady Bunch just yearning to see a "vacuum clip." When I was successful, I was on a vacuum high for hours and sometimes days. Was I bitten or what.
Thanks Again!!
Like Fred said, You Rock!!

Pat

ps: If I don't talk with you before hand, have a great Thanksgiving!!

I'd love to see more screen shots, or video excerpts, of this Electrolux that Alice is using. It's a Model E, and while the hose is obviously replacement and the nozzle is wrong, it appears that the hose has the correct - and unique to this model - hammertone blue machine-end coupler.

Since this thread is mainly about The Brady Bunch, it is fitting to honor the recently-departed Ann Bradford Davis (aka Alice Nelson, the Brady's housekeeper from 1969-1974--almost during the whole run of the teal Electrolux Model 1205).

Davis died today from a subdural hematoma after a fall in her bathroom. Sources close to her say she was in excellent health for an 88-year old woman and her death was a complete shock.

Farewell Alice... We'll miss you...

I remember the Hoover upright and the blue Lux tank. Wasn't she using another canister in the living room in another episode? I also thought that the other kids used another Lux vacuum to clean Greg's car... Perhaps I'm wrong as it's easy to confuse different shows.

I remember an episode

jfalberti's profile picture

Where Carol had to go out of town, and didn't want to leave.  The family and Alice assured her everything would be fine until she got back.  Alice ended up tripping on the kids Chinese Checkers set left on the floor and sprained her ankle.  The doctor ordered her to stay in bed while Mike and the kids tried to run the house., and keep Alice's accident away from Carol. At the end of the episode, when Carol was coming home, they are scrambling to make sure everything is in order and Alice turns around and trips over the Hoover and resprains her ankle.  Mike angrily askes the kids which one left the vacuum in the middle of the floor.  Alice sheepishly raises her hand and waves at him.  Any one else remember this episode?

I remember it very well

I also remember they hardly ever had it turned on. One episode it sounded like an electrolux power nozzel motor, the other one is when she was vacuuming, had it on shag pile, bag was not inflated. That was one of the earlier ones. Also towards the end the kids were vacuuming out the car which looked like they had an eureka upright hose .... Anyway she was part of my childhood growing up and she will be very missed, I try to catch them on MEtv. Take care all! Cheers!!!! Mark D.
