A few weeks ago when I visited John Gregory's shop, he gave me a very early 2000s Hoover SteamVac Dual V that was missing its clean water tank. A customer left it sitting in his store for 3 months and he was sick of looking at it.

I had a Dual V a few years back that had a burned out motor that I kept the tanks from. I stuck the clean water tank from the dead one onto the one John gave me and took it for a spin in the living room after vacuuming very thoroughly with the Self Propelled WindTunnel. The following picture is the result. Apparently there was more schmutz living in my rug than I thought!!

I ran my Steamvac last night in my living room. They do find dirt! Glad you like your machine.

I don't have a Duel V, but the steam vacs are great.

Remember they are picking up that sticky dirt that is clinging to and is trapped in the carpet fibers. No matter how much you vacuum you can't get that lose without some kind of deep cleaning, through shampoo, steam, or host it does not shift with normal vacuuming.

Matt, I have an older 90-ish Hoover Widepath steamer, and it has served me well. One thing I suggest is rinsing after the initial steaming, it does make a difference in texture of the carpet and it re-soils less IMHO. I usually steam clean before I go to bed, then rinse the following morning. I also use a steam extraction cleaner by the name of Formula 770 by Centraz I believe. Friends of mine who own a vacuum and janitorial supply recommend it with great success to all their customers using both commercial and residential machines. I use half the amount recommended by Hoover in the measuring cup and it does an awesome job. I never take my shoes off at the door, nor do any guests in my home either, and with a shedding dog as well tracking stuff in all the time, my old carpet looks great every time I steam clean. Congrats on your steamer and use it in good health!
