I was wondering what Beam Central Vacs looked like then. I also want to know if anyone has brochures or scans for them. Also what attachments they came with. From hoses, power nozzles, to other cleaning tools they came with.

Not sure if this is a replacement hose or not, I would assume that it would've came with the wire reinforced vinyl hoses like old NuTone systems at the time came with. Not sure if this has a 116765 (3 Stage 5.7") motor or a 116119 (3 Stage 7.2") motor either. Anyways, this is a Beam system that I found on kijiji that's listed in MooseJaw, SK. I like older beam units, especially the smaller bodied machines with the dark brown buckets. I love NuTone 353 central vacs too, I have three.

What about their power nozzles and electric hoses?

Tjhooverman,we lived in Sparta Wisconsin (Near LaCrosse WI) in the early to mid 1970s, and there was a locally owned home center that sold and installed Beam Central Vacuums. There are many houses in that area that are equipped with them, and from what i remember of the time is that there were no power nozzles or power hoses. The 30 ft hoses were simular to the one shown in the pic above, but were a brownish/light maroon color,,and came with creme colored Eureka style attachments. Including the standard Eureka Floor Tool, and extra long Floor Brush with the seperate elbow.
The "Power Brush" that came with the Beam systems then was called a Preco. Its a turbine power brush, that runs off the suction of the machine. They were sold with many vacuums at the time. Singer being one of them. I believe Rainbow at one time also came with a Preco, if you ordered it.
As far as the Beam System itself,,they were yellow/cream colored with a brown bucket/bottom that collected the dirt.
Many of our neighbors in Sparta WI had Beam systems,,infact one of our neighbors owned the home center that sold them,,and another neighbor was their installation man. He was also the shop teacher at the Sparta Senior High School at the time.
The home center owner had a large home, with a finished "Rec Room" basement,,that had carpeted walls. I remember that house having MANY creme colored Beam Central Vac Inlets,,and they had a hose for each level of the home. I thought that was just the coolest thing going!

My parents built a large new home in Sparta in 1972,,and you can be sure i dreamed that we would have Beam Central vac also, but of course, my mother (not sympathetic to my love of vacuums at all) bought the ONE vacuum i hated. No Beam for me! But, 20 yrs later, when i bought my own home,,i finally got my Beam!

The Black&Decker central vac system that was in my Moms Levitttown home near Wash DC had one of those Preco floor tools-liked using it.The house was built in something like 1968.

There's a fabulous Beam brochure from the 60s on Automatic Ephemera, as well.

Beam Central Vacuum

Hi. I am Shawn. I have autism, and I am new to this site. My Autism is what reflects my love for collecting and repairing electrical appliances. I love to collect central vacuums. I just started a month ago, and I think there are others out there just like me that do. I see the photo of the cool beam vacuum with the harvest gold dirt container and top half. Well I just started collecting central vacuums, and I have a total of 5 units. I just purchased a blue Dust Care Model DCC-1 on Ebay, and it looks IDENTICAL to that beam, but sky blue body with a dark blue dirt container, and top half. Seller says motor just stopped out of the blue no burnt smells, I am hoping just need set of carbon brushes. I talked to him on phone, and he said there was a clicking sound when the low volt wires were jumped, so I know relay is functional. I am so super excited to receive the vacuum, and hope I receive it in perfect condition. My question to you or someone here is? Did Beam manufactore and rebadge this unit for Dust Care?? I am going to include the photo from ebay, and will update photo when I receive the unit which is hopefully next week. I am very smart and do pretty good at repairing things, and vacuum cleaners were always a strong point for me.

I started collecting central units just recently-the vac dealer I frequent is a MD central vac dealer. He offers me the units he takes in on trades. So far a 'Lx unit with blown motor-will replace sometime.A NuTone 430 unit that is in excellent condition. It has two full bypass motors whose suction fans are connected in series. When you connect an air powered tool to this thing--the tool almost levitates! The vac place thinks they will have another unit for me at the end of this week.Keep watch on the trade in piles! On your recently acquired vacuum-wonder if the motor's circuit breaker has been tripped. If there is a reset button-try resetting it.If you are lucky your machine should fire back up!Hopefully your motor isn't blown.
