Got a my collection to a start. My new driver from now on.
Miele Autocare S7580. In the end cost £50, I bartered it down!

It came with a damaged back plate, it looks like it had a previous attempt to remove it, as there were screwdriver marks, and the screw tab was sheared off the motor housing.

1 hour, a bit of plastic and a electric welding iron and its as good as new

All complete on the rear, the steel extension was not locking properly, a couple of dozen retractions and its fine. The body was a bit scuffed, a bit of back to black for car plastics and it looks practically like new

As well as physical damage, the main silver body was covered in scuffs. It had normal use apparently, although I guess the shiny paintwork on Mieles is susceptible.
When your mum has loads of nail polishes going, its easy to touch up. A bit of touching up the gouges and scuffs, rub with acetone to remove the excess, a rub down with Tcut and a final polish with a bit of autoglymn and it looks almost like new again

Another one. I know it doesn't look perfect, but you didn't see it before!

Apart from cosmetics, it works beautifully as you can see. It was surprisingly not too dirty, but I gave it all a bit of a clean up. The swivelling neck is fine, the brush roll is fine, electronics are fine and it is not overheating. It cleans GREAT!

Well done for winning it! I love the floor and you kitchen btw! The Miele seems to fit in well with that decor. You got a good price but as you say with the work that needs done to it, £50 is a good price. A bit of polish should bring it up looking good. Does it have the LED headlight too?

Thanks, it's my parents kitchen, it's part of our extension which we built ourselves, my dad is a joiner and dabbles with construction, so it made sense. That kitchen was my suggestion, I was worried it might be too modern for them.

Yes it has the headlight, I tried to show it in the last picture. I may try some more polish, but even now it looks a lot better than it originally did.

Ah yes I can see it now! So, will this S7 become a daily driver for you now?

Yes it will, although I am eyeing up a sebo felix. I really like the idea behind it. I'm sure I'll be burnt at the post, but the felix is everything the oreck should actually have been. Let the pitchforks enter!

Eh???

The Oreck and the SEBO Felix are just not the same at all.

Oreck is a dirty fan upright only vacuum cleaner with a larger dust bag capacity (13 litres) but can clog and they're noisy.

The Felix is a 3.5 litre dust bag capacity small to medium home sized clean fan upright with the capability to go "large hand held" if you really want to and of course has that handy brush roll on/off function with a variable suction control. I don't tend to see into that hand held concept - I find the whole idea bulky, but more of a small bonus rather than a large selling point. It is also heavier than any Oreck upright; the Felix however can be lightweight to individual owners, but it depends on what floor head they're using at the time.

At the moment mine is being used without the ET-1 power nozzle head and just has a suction only floor head for use in the kitchen.

Sorry sebofan, no offence meant. What I was trying to say, is that the felix achieves what the oreck should have been. The felix is relatively lightweight yet it's powerful and versatile because it has the tools on board.
That's what I like about it, the detachable head as you say and it can be converted to a portable

No offence taken but I'm a bit unsure..

Im a bit unsure how you think the Felix is "everything that the Oreck should have been." I dont know where people in general think that the Felix is ever an Oreck rival. The Oreck weighs something like 4kg against the Felix which just tips the scales at nearly 7kg.

It is easy to pass by the Oreck - its a modern day "old style" upright vacuum cleaner in the same vein as a Hoover Turbopower or Junior, anything really that has a dirty fan fitted to it and no on board tools. I'm not a fan of Oreck because I tried an Oreck and it was passed down from my parents. I now have a Vax VCU02 commercial upright, which is very similar to the Oreck and is thus a far closer relative of the Oreck model compared to the Felix. It has no tools on board, but it is lightweight and easy to use.

Despite what many may feel, I think there is still a good market for an upright cleaner without tools on board.

Many of those who have tried the Sebo Felix prefer it to the swivelling Miele S7, though you lose out on the longer built in hose and extension tools on the Miele S7. Largely then you're also sacrificing a bigger dust capacity but on the basis that SEBO offer better value with 7 to 10 bags compared to the amount you get with Miele, the Miele ownership can be more expensive to put up with.

Personally I like the Miele S7 design but I had the base level S7210 many years ago and found it to be too bulky in my home and wasn't really for me, despite the modern design.
