Just picked up a Hoover Elite II the older gray body white cord style machine at my favorite thrift store. Its only missing the dusting brush and the little square floor selector thing. Other then those two minor things its in great shape and runs smooth and quiet being the 5.5 amp motor. I'll post pictures when its done getting its SPA treatment since it will be living in my house. Watch for them either tonight or tomorrow!

How much did you pay?

"...smooth and quiet..." I wouldn't call any Elite quiet, but they are fairly smooth.

Ha! I just meant it was quiet for an Elite! I paid 10 dollars.

Here's My Hoover elite II after its cleaning. It came out very nice and works great! The only thing left to do is get a new headlight bulb.

Nice Elite. That's an early model indeed. I have one I found last year that's dark gray with a striped bag. Yours is in MUCH better shape than mine and I imagine it runs much better also.

Wasn't it 1992?

The Elite II came out? I have a link to a commercial for the Elite II below.
I remember finding one long ago curbside, while riding with a friend. That Friend said there appeared to be mold in the bag, So I cut it off with some sheers on the side of the road (Keep in mind, this was years back, when I was younger and clueless that Bleach would be the proper solution). The motor was very rough and dry, I remember putting a white cord from an ancient Quick-Broom my Sister swiped from a shed years back (Which I promptly returned, Don't know why I kept the cord) And wired a quick-wire GE plug from Winn-Dixie on it. I didn't have a replacement bag, So I swiped the blue hard-bag off an unfortunately long gone Blue Hoover-Elite I persuaded a guy who stopped across the street to give me when I saw he had it in the bed of his truck! The Elite II is long gone, All that remains of the once cobbled-together little thing is the Hose, that blue hard-bag, and the base w/ hood.
I might even still have the motor somewhere in that disaster I call a Garage, I remember trying desperately not-too-long-ago to take the cover off and try to fix the motor.

Here's the standard commercial form 1992:

You are correct! The serial number indicates it was made in 1992.

It runs surprisingly well!  I think the last owner either took very good care of it or didn't use it that often.
