Twin Turbo

I have often wondered why Electrolux decided to re-launch the Twin Turbo, back in 1991, after it had been replaced by the Glider. There can be no doubting of course that the new 1070 must have been a run-away success for Electrolux, particularly in latter years when prices fell as low as £49.99 in 1995 (half the price it was when first on sale), but even so, if the Glider was to be the base range, why bring out another (and older) cleaner?

Ooh would you look at that, Electrolux and Miele getting the best buy's. Not a Hoover in sight. Sorry, Hoover-nuts. ;).

Benny, the way I understood it was that there was a lot of back stick of the original Turbo2's (z1055 and z1065) that continued to sell more units than both the Glider and Contour post launch. So based on this, Electrolux brought back the Turbo2 but in an even more basic design and as a budget cleaner. And let's be thankful they did, the z1070 was better than both of the higher end cleaners.

Also, the cleaner pictured about is a z1055, not a z1070.

Hello Turbo, yes, I realise the picture is not of a 1070, but I do appreciate you saying that Electrolux had back-stock which had continued to sell well. I noted also, albeit after my last message, that the Lite upright (old 400 series) had been discontinued and with no direct replacement either. To that end, it would not be beyond the possibility that the Glider looked a little too 'bulky' or modern even for a consumer who was more familiar with the Lite and Twin Turbo shaped cleaners, thus the arrival of the Z1070. I almost got one for my mother when prices dropped as low as they did.

Wasn't the Glider heavier? I always thought it was - (I had a green one at one point, given to me for free but it was past its best) clearly at that time Electrolux could just be doing re-runs of older uprights to satisfy older buyers who maybe couldn't put up with the newer designs.

ZD1070

They were the best and as we know the last of the 500 twin cleaner line.

We have two: one upstairs, one down. Bought in 1994 for 59/69.99 and 1995 for 49/59.99 respectively.

I supplemented the tool port hole covers with the earlier type that had the circular suction opening dials.

I also fitted a wide headed screw to each of the height toggles which prevents the machine clamping to the carpet as the wheel bracket/carrier assembly can not slip all the way down to its lowest level.

This also reduces excess belt and brush wear; both machines have only required one belt/brush strip(s) change since original purchase.

The best upright lux ever and a good second hand buy if the cleaner has been cared for?

I always fancied the Lite model but I'm sure I read on here somewhere that they clogged up because of their small size - is this true?

I'm sure they clogged up when abused by the average idiot, but as a member of this forum, I don't imagine you'll use it like that!

Lite and 400 series Electrolux

These cleaners did have issues with clogging, to a point, as the ducting which debris had to pass through was at a 90 degree angle where the handle met the motor. But not only this, the handle, inside which the debris was blown into the dust bag, was rectangular. Had it been round, like on the 152 style cleaners, it would have been more resistant to solid objects getting wedged across it.

FAR too good?

No, they do feature in the magazines. The photographs of the test results say so. As the original comment refers to, where they don't feature is in any of the best-buy categories.

Thank you Benny, I wondered about the Lite model as and when I did sample one, I found it to be quite small and often wondered about its general design.

Alex, dearest - Hoover as we all know weren't perfect, even if their brochures would like their customers to think so.

From that test page and copies of my own Which magazines, I have noted a few mentions of a vacuum cleaner called the "Medivac Microfilter." There is reference to it on that first post, second scan from Which.

Is this a model made by Numatic or another company? Looks like an old metal tub from the Numatic company...

My uncle's girlfriend has one of those Medi-vac machines. Her son once vacuumed up milk with it, it smelt terrible for days. :/
But I cleaned it out and it's all good now.
