Hi all! So I've had a pretty good morning down at my local carboot. I didn't find a DC03 :( but oh well, at least I tried!

I found this DC07 Origin Cyclone and bin unit for £10 and in very good condition!

Inside it's a bit dirty, mainly stained and dried up dust. Mainly at the top though, the bottom is perfectly clean! :D

The shroud part of the Cyclone unit is completely clear! :D

I expected the bin to be bit 'clouded' over but not dusty at all.

So now my project is to build my own Dyson DC07 Origin from spare parts. The next thing to get is a DC07 Origin body with a motor inside of it. I also need a hose, cable, airflow ducts, filters etc.

What do you guys think? :)

You payed £10 for a cyclone for a vacuum you don't even have?

Post# 248585 , Reply# 5   9/1/2013 at 06:32 (3,860 days old) by RootCyclone (East Midlands,UK.)

It's the best I could do this morning. But I plan or restoring a DC07 Origin so I needed this part especially. I'm not paying £45 for a brand new one!

I bought a dc07 cyclone for £1! Buttoday there was a dc07 origin for £20 and a dc

I didn't see many vacuums at my local carboot :( But I found a guy who had THOUSANDS of Dyson, Hoover, and Numatic spares!

I was given a DC07 Origin that's got a broken bin lid so it wont stay on, but the motor part runs fine.

£10 for the Cyclone & Bin! My car boot has a stall where a man sells them fully cleaned for £4.

What I need now to complete the restoration is the vacuum body + Motor, the brushbar, soulplate, hose and wand etc. But I really need the body and the motor complete with wheels and all to complete the restoration, and ebay hasn't got much options! :(

I've got a chassis you could have for a few pennies. Not got a motor sadly, and the chassis is from a purple animal, but either steam punk dc07 or its grey anyway, I can't remember!

Post# 248659 , Reply# 11   9/1/2013 at 14:49 (3,860 days old) by parwaz786 ( )

the DC07 animal should have a purple body :)

I fear by the time you buy all the parts you could of just brought a complete second hand machine for less money but I suppose you have the feeling of building it yourself just budget wisely. :)

Yes I would like to build a DC07. And yes, price does matter, so budgeting will be important.

Also, beko1987, would this chassis include the following:

- The spine
- Holding screws for the motor cover
- and also in good condition? (I don't mind the colour)

Yes and yes! Got the whole motor housing bar the actual motor. I'll get it together tomorrow and put a picture up

From 07 chassis

From 07 chassis

From 07 chassis

From 07 chassis

That's the whole shebang minus motor, clutch and brushroll (used elsewhere)

Will cost about a tenner (maybe less, would need to box it up to get an accurate quote), and I'd like a tenner for the lot too.

I echo comments above, you can get a whole machine for about £30 in good condition, just in need of a refurb. Have you checked your local preloved/gumtree/freead/ebays orted to nearest first? All excellent websites

Let me know if you want it and I'll get it packaged and quoted. Not sure wehter to just wrap it in bubblewrap and put the label on that or find a box for it!

You need to be careful with the DC07 Animal spine, the purple ABS plastic on this model is VERY fragile and brittle! I have bought a few old vacs with this type of spine and every one of them had damaged lugs that held the hose and handle to the spine. There should be 4 lugs at the top of the spine on the rear of it, and these lugs are what stops the handle from dropping off backwards away from the spine. I would check that that spine has all 4 lugs intact, or its not really any use as the stress of use on the remaining lugs will snap them off as well in short time.

In short, the purple Animal version is not really a good choice, especially if its been badly faded and exposed to sunlight which makes the ABS even more brittle. Be warned!

Here are 2 spines which both have broken lugs:

This is spine 1:

And the other one - both were bought for the motors, as the spines are no good:

Oh, and never drop a cyclone assembly off a DC07, or this could happen:

Post# 248924 , Reply# 20   9/3/2013 at 08:59 (3,858 days old) by madabouthoovers ()

Old DC07's may still be common and everywhere on EBay, but many of the older ones are now up to 12 years old, and the plastics will be like eggshells, so I would try to get the newest model you can, as the plastics will not be in such an advanced state of decomposition. Any old Dyson that has been stored in sunlight is a NO-NO! Sunlight destroys coloured ABS.

The best type of DC07 to get is a non-clutched model, and a late one such as the one below, the plastics are better than the earlier models. Bear in mind that older clutched models will more than likely have the original drivebelts one them which will be stretched and usually start slipping, necessitating belt replacement which aint easy on a DC07 clutch as it has to be dismantled to replace the clutch to brushroll belt.

I picked this model up off Ebay for £20, it was down as spares or repairs as it wouldn't pick up. It was filthy dirty as seen below:

Never thought to check the spines, need to pop back to mums in a bit, so will check. I got mine for the motor and clutch too, since it's the cheapest way to get parts.

Mine is quite faded though, not dropped it to check for brittleness though! Will report back

But it was a newish model, so I snapped it up, it was one of the last DC07s to be made in about 2008:

Post# 248929 , Reply# 24   9/3/2013 at 09:22 (3,858 days old) by madabouthoovers ()

It was clogged in the hose, and the belt had snapped:

Showing the soleplate removed, and no belt!

Post# 248932 , Reply# 26   9/3/2013 at 09:25 (3,858 days old) by madabouthoovers ()

After I cleaned it up and fitted a new belt, I sold it for £60. If you drop on the right one, you can get one like this for next to nothing. The cleaner was practically like new when cleaned up:

I can just not understand why someone would buy a Dyson and knock the hell out of it, letting it get filthy and clogged up, then selling it for next to nothing. The carbon brushes told me that it had hardly any use at all:

Post# 248934 , Reply# 28   9/3/2013 at 09:31 (3,858 days old) by madabouthoovers ()

It was called the DC07 Precision and was an Argos exclusive, the last of the DC07's to be sold before they finished production. In my eyes, a very classy looking Dc07:

Post# 248935 , Reply# 29   9/3/2013 at 09:40 (3,858 days old) by madabouthoovers ()

The one thing I did do though was nick the cyclone top handle for myself as it had the re-inforced handle fitted. I put a standard handle on it to sell it with. As you know, many DC07s suffered with broken bin handles, so Dyson released an uprated design late on, but not many DC07's had this, so look out for them as these handles are much better if you can find a Dyson DC07 with one on.

Also notice that the cyclones are de-rooted - the exit holes are bigger than the early models which were prone to the cyclone exits clogging. The early ones affected were easy to spot with the top removed as the cones protruded higher than the rest of the housing. Later ones are cut flush with the top of the outer housing.

I loved doing the DC07 refurbs, but work commitments meant that I cant do them any more, and there wasn't really that much money to be made doing them, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. The market is flooded with people who do up old Dysons now, and prices have come down what people will pay for an old Dyson, so if you do it for a hobby then that's OK, and I hope you build yourself a nice DC07, but don't pay over the odds for bits, because you are young, people can and will take advantage of that, especially at a Car Boot Sale.

Here is an example of an Animal DC07 that was in good nick that I did up and sold for £60 - when the owner had looked after it, it was in good nick but again I paid only £20 for it. The filters were just dirty so it had lost suction.

How do you make the bins less cloudy, my Dyson looks so old when its only about 6 months old?

Post# 248944 , Reply# 34   9/3/2013 at 10:24 (3,858 days old) by madabouthoovers ()

There is no real way of doing that, but I found that a spray of silicone car bumper shine around the inside of the bin and then wiping it out again seemed to make the bin appear clear enough to sell on. It isn't a long lasting solution though. Most clear bins on cyclonic vacs end up cloudy quite quickly unfortunately.

Perhaps someone else might know a good way of renovating the plastic clear bins?

bek1987 that DC07 chassis interests me!

Please contact me on my main email address: BR70013@live.com

I'm happy to pay £10 or more (as long as under £20 or so). I'll pay you through the post with either a cheque or cash. Not sure yet.

JUST TO MAKE SURE!

- The spine inludes everything in the picture you posted? I.E. the wheels, post motor filter cover minus the filter, cleaner head etc. (Just email me about of the entire list of parts in the spine that come with it like the ones listed)

Hey Tim- I've got a DC07/14 brushroll and soleplate for the clutched model and the hose if you're interested. By the way I live only 2 mins away from Crich tramway village as I saw you had some vids of that on YouTube:)

I'm sure it will be under £20. Yep, everything in the PIC. I'll type out a full list to you in an email tomorrow when I'm on the laptop not tablet.

It is missing one tab thing though
