Why do the brushbar motors burn out on vacuums especially Dyson and what can I do to prevent them from burning them out? Is excessive use the cause? Thanks.
Tayyab

What model? DC24 or DC25? Stuff like the DC14 and previous do not have brush bar motors as you know. I maybe able to help Tayyab! :)

If it's Floor Head motors keep cutting out then it's likely down to two things:

- A complete motor failure/burnout

- A cut-out or a break in the circuit somewhere in the electrical system

The DC24 is the one that apparently fails more than the DC25 in terms of it's cleaner head.

It maybe down to excessive use on the motor or motor strain. Just check that belt though before anything, it might be down to it slipping or is not gripping on the brush roll.

Hope this helps :)

Brush bar motors are tiny and barely capable of providing amount of power needed to turn a brush bar. It's an age-old problem on 2-motor uprights. The Hoover Electro Kinetic power head for their cylinders was about the best I've seen.

My DC25's head hasn't burnt out YET but I've got a brand new head spare just in case...

Premature brushbar failure was a massive problem on the DC24, and many owners seem to report that the brushroll became loud and clattery before total stoppage/burnout, so it could either have been that the brushbar bearings/housings had failed or that the bearings in the motor failed in these instances - I also read that the motors only had a life of 50 hours run time before the carbon brushes wore down, so I think a combination of lack of brushroll maintenance and excessive use could be killing them off too soon.

The other thing with these power heads is that they cut out if they get blocked and people sometimes don't realise they have to press I tiny reset button to get them going again - so they could believe that the head was broken.
