Carrying on the Sunday trend of car boot sales...!

Myself and my good lady had a stall at one today (West Wycombe)! Was mainly to get rid of clothed we didn't want, but I managed to sneak a little something in that coincidentally went to a member of our very parish!

Badly stitched shot of our stall (sun was right on the screen). The rule is, the pitch is as long as your car, so we took the XM!

From Hoover Junior 119

Once set up, I went for a wander, and stumbled across a rather handsome looking 119. Boxed set of tools, instructions, original reciept, I felt the old heartbeat rising. Wandered over, playing it cool (as you do), and basically got told to take my tenner and shove it as they wanted more. Wandered back to our stall, told Amy who said she would have a look. She came back empty handed and said they wanted £50 for it.

I dejectedly left it at that, and we carried on. 4 hours later, and we are packing up. I had a look over and saw it was still there, so had another go. This time I went in guns blazing. The seller only wanted it to go to a museum or someone who will take care of it. I explained I was the latter of those two, and she still said £50. So I pointed out all the little niggly things wrong with it, and with a huff she said £25 and it's yours.

Can you guess what happened next?

Of course!

Means I didn't make a profit with my stuff at the car boot (running joke as I sold all my stuff in the first hour) but meh!

This rolled out of the box when I got it home, extra value WIN! (Eventually I want to fit it back on, and make a convertor for use!)

Even with this utterly knackered belt it ran very well! Can't afford belts this month though, so I hope it doesn't snap!

Will hunt for new brushroll brushes too

From Hoover Junior 119

Serial number 124126
From Hoover Junior 119

Not sure where the extra random stampings are for

From Hoover Junior 119

Missing switch cover. Luckily my scrapper in the garage has a perfectly good one!

From Hoover Junior 119

I love the bag, it's in brilliant condition!

From Hoover Junior 119

Anda quick play with some weetabix

Probably be a while before anything happens with this one! Got the DC07 in pieces, the Contour is awaiting the missing pieces before being complete, the TP2 is waiting for it's new motor, and the 875 is scattered around too. All whilst I get it in the ear about the mess upstairs.

Still, I sold the TP Boost, so 1 out 1 in as they say! Plus she is beautiful!

I knew you would come home with that! What a lovely machine; After some restoration I bet it will be near perfect. I can look for a belt for you as they should be the same as the junior 1334 and 1346.

I wonder who bought that junior you where selling? :P

We always go as buyers if we have money, even if it's just to have a walk around in the morning, yesterday was the first time as a seller. Was good, but there are things we will do differently next time!

Jake - if you have a belt kicking around that would be great! I took the seller of the junior as a challenge, even Amy got personal about it when she went to inquire, so it was game on!

I think my Junior went to a good home, I had a feeling about the buyer!

The 119 was introduced in September 1950 so you have quite an early one there.

You are very lucky to have a bag in good condition - they are not known for their longevity. You really do need to empty it each time you use or, ideally, use a paper bag carefully folded around the opening of the bag (from the inside of course) to protect the cloth bag.

You have a bonus in the tools with the large brush and straight wand, both of which would have come from a 402 (cylinder)

Nice find

Cheers All. The condition of the bag, handle grip and paint sold it to me, the bag is in unusually good condition, its certainly the best condition early cleaner I have.

Just done a conversion, £54,11&6 was £950 in 2005!

After the Dyson was back together, I took a trip back in time to some good old fashioned mechanics!

Cleaned the bag up

From Hoover Junior 119

Good vac off with the Contour and dyson turbine brush

From Hoover Junior 119

Cleaned out the flange, and glued a 'new' peice of foam to it, then forgot to take any afters

From Hoover Junior 119

Gave the bag top a quick polish

From Hoover Junior 119

Poor thing looked sad

From Hoover Junior 119

So I got the CIF out and enquired about how she might come up

From Hoover Junior 119

From Hoover Junior 119

Very is the answer. Will clean and polish properly when it is in parts

From Hoover Junior 119

Brushroll out

From Hoover Junior 119

And after a good vac out

From Hoover Junior 119

From Hoover Junior 119

Poor belt

From Hoover Junior 119

Poor brushroll ends

From Hoover Junior 119

From Hoover Junior 119

Poor bearings

The brushroll was sick when I took the brushes off

From Hoover Junior 119

I soaked one of the bearings in oil to try and revive it

From Hoover Junior 119

But then realised that my random thin pliers that have had no purpose in their life yet would open out the circlip and split the bearing properly, so I grabbed the other one

From Hoover Junior 119

All cleaned up thoroughly

From Hoover Junior 119

Pile the grease on first, then the bearings will stick to it and not be a sod! Should have used more grease though, will bear that in mind when I do the pile of agitator bearings I have about, and the turbopowers!

From Hoover Junior 119

Opened the oiled up one up

From Hoover Junior 119

and did exactly the same!

Back together

From Hoover Junior 119

I refitted the ruined belt and went for a test drive to clean up it's muck...

Can't wait to get a new belt, come on pay-day! Also tempted in time to sort the paint out. For now though, a slow leisurely stripdown and cleanup will do! I also dug out my spare bojack bag to save the original one. Will use the original one on clean carpets, but for any vacuuming in general, I'll put the horrible bag on. I think I have a blue bojack bag in the garage, may swap it for that so it matches at least!

Motor out soon hopefully!

It's very enjoyable to use, and works very well now the brushroll and belt have been replaced! I got the new belts today, and although the one I found in the garage is fine, I put a brand new one on!

I HOPE YOU GET HER LOOKING GREAT AGAIN.

I GAVE THE HANDLE ON MINE A RESPRAY. I HAD A SPECIALIST PAINT SHOP SCAN MY CREVICE TOOL AND MADE A NEAR PERFECT SPRAY PAINT MATCH. THE BROWN PAINTS AVALIBLE IN SHOPS ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL COLOUR.

SPRAYED HANDLE AND JUST A FEW VERY MINOR TOUCH UPS TO THE FRONT COVER AND PRESTO!!

THIS IS MINE.

It looks different compared to your box Hoover119dude, but I think it's a genuine one. Any idea on age? Was used to store dolls clothes apparently, seller was a collectable doll seller anyway.

£2.99 plus £5 postage, not too bad IMO. Can't wait to get the Junior safely packed away in it next week!

The box you have is for a 375, probably pre-WW2. Hoover119dude's box is the correct one for the 119, which is in keeping with the early 1950s style.

You just have to get a 375 now LOLOLOLOL

Wow, that's amazing! I've never seen a 119 box before. What a bargain for £25!!

Noooo so the 119 can't go in this box then!

Never mind, will have to get the 375 out at some point in the future and pack that away in it instead! 119 will have to go in a normal random box then.

Howeve rthe 375 is very much buried in my mums loft now, along with most of the contents of our lives so that's a job for another day!

Cheers for the box ID though, £2.99 for any old Hoover box isn't bad in my eye. Means I've spammed my own thread with pointless info though. Got the 375 before I joined VL so no thread about it on here.
