I've been meaning to do this for a while. I've never seen a complete list of the Electrolux Save 'n Pay banks so I thought its time one was made.

To begin with there is a popular misconception that they were salesmens sample. In truth the original idea of the banks was to give the customer an easy way to pay for their machines. The original banks held $10 worth of quarters. The monthly payment on a new machine was usually $10. By just saving their quarters the customer could easily save up the monthly payment.

I will begin with the Canadian models. I will leave a blank for any I am missing.

The first bank in Canada was made to match the model 88.

I am not totally certain about the 3rd Canadian bank. I have the US model 1205 bank in the same colour as the Canadian AP100 (shown in the US section) but I don't know if it was used in place of the one to match the 100. I have never come across one that looks like the AP100 but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I am not as certain about the US models but I will add what I can here. Please add any information or corrections you can after the list.

The first one in the US was the Blue model G

I am not certain if these two versions exist so I am not including them in the numbered list. I have seen this bank in White and Gold as well. The white, however may have just been a poor picture of a blue one and the Gold one looked to me like it had been painted.

This is the tan version of the 1205. I don't know if it belongs here as a US model or in the Canadian section.

Past this one I havn't found any others so I don't know if there were any more to match the Marquis or the Grand Marquis / Legacy. Or for that matter any others.

It would be

nice to have the box they came in. I gave away two as prizes at a Bowling Banquet. I said I was giving away two new vacuum cleaners. We had a lot of fun with them. I tried to get them back a few years ago and they said no. They always brag about winning a new Electrolux and still had it in the box. Olympia Ones.

In my collection of sales premiums, salesmen's awards and sweeper miniatures, I have a 1205 bank that is spray-painted in metallic gold paint. On the bottom of it there's a clear sticker that states "Celebrating 50 Years 1924-1974 - ELECTROLUX Golden Jubilee" with the word Electrolux done up as the block-letter logo of that time and the word "Celebrating" at an angle and in a script-style font called (or similar to) Coronet.

I also have the turquoise and tan Model G banks, a 1205, a brown and white Olympia, a gray Silverado, the two Canadian 89s shown above, and also Model XII and XII banks! The XII bank is a leatherette-covered bank made to look like a little book, that would be hidden in someone's library I suppose. The XXX bank is a plastic box that also has a calendar. Here are some photos.

Nice banks.

Hi Charles Richard. Did Electrolux make any LX/LXI banks? I'm sure it wouldn't have the ejector, (I can see it now, quarters all over the place) but perhaps one where the front cover pops open. As for Electrolux ashtrays, I have only one, it's an early model G. I got it from somebody in the early days of the club, perhaps you, if not then either Mike Pupek, or Craig Long.

Alex Taber.

Alex, I've never seen any LX banks or other collectibles of any type. Not to say there weren't any, but I've never seen anything at all.

So as to not highjack this thread, I'll start a new thread of photos of some of the other miniatures & stuff I've got.

I finally have a Silverado bank on the way. I'll post a pic when I get it.

I've also found out there was a bank to match the Marquis but haven't got one yet. Anyone know if there were any others?

Nice collection of pics and information, Doug. Congrats on your latest Electrolux bank acquisition!

Were there ever any upright banks?

By the way, in what year did Electrolux Canada's plant close? I didn't realize you had an 'E6500' like the US's 'Epic 6500 SR'.

If I remember correctly the Canadian plant closed in 1987.

How big were these banks (ie, length and width and depth in inches)?

"any upright banks?"

I don't think so but seem to recall a mini Discovery II with a small digital clock display across motor housing.

The Silverado bank finally arrived. Now I only need the AP100, Super J and Marquis Banks (Anyone know if there was one like the Grand Marquis / Legacy?)
