Hey everyone, here is my rare Hoover Turbolite from March 1989...I got this off eBay for only £9.99 and it is in good condition and it runs very well, the cleaner head is a little yellow which didn't show up in the pictures, which I guess is a good thing!

The Turbolite is the exact same cleaner as the Hoover Elite 200, which it is more commonly known as in America. We had two models of the Turbolite here in the UK, both looked identical, one was the U4527 (this one shown) and the other was the U4529 which came with a set of pan converter tools unlike the U4527 which the pan converter tools were available as an optional extra.

I have been after one of these for a while and my main dream cleaner to be found now is the burgandy, American Elite ll with the side mounted wrap around hose...It just looks SO cool!!

Here it is anyway...

I washed the bag...

alexhoovers94's profile picture

And the lettering fadded off (as I heard through the grape vine, they do, when washed) so I asked my mum if she would fill it back in with one of her red marker pens, I asked her to do it as she is a paper crafter and I would of ruined it! She made a really good job of it! :) It did bleed a little due to the material the bag is made from.

The Hood...

alexhoovers94's profile picture

Very simple lettering, there was a lot more lettering on the Elite 200, they probably did this as it was Hoover's VERY basic cleaner, to the point of it not even having a height adjustment control.

Replacement cord hook...

alexhoovers94's profile picture

I replaced the cord hook, which by the way took weeks to get here from the states! The one that was on it had snapped and wouldn't hold the cord on, so I removed it and clicked this new one in, it is the wrong colour, but is exactly the same style hook it would of originally had and all that I am really bothered about is that it serves it's purpose, it holds the cord neatly at the back, out of the way.

Use only H4 bags...

alexhoovers94's profile picture

inccidently, when I pealed this sticker back it says - "use only Type A bags" I believe what we call Type H4, in the States, you call those Type B? Please do correct me if I am wrong!

Brushroll...

alexhoovers94's profile picture

It is no Activator but it still a damn good brushroll, I don't know what Hoover called this brushroll? Oh, by the way, if you hadn't already noticed the brushes are very short and it does need replacing, but I can only get one from the States and £50 including shipping, I can't justify it right now!

I can imagine that model was very popular with elderly people who would have trouble lifting heavier vacuums?

Thanks Jamie, yh, it is a rare one! I have checked E-Spares, they don't stock barely anything for the Turbolite, just bags and

belts, but really, why should they? It is rare as rocking horse shit. :P They probably think that there is hardly any owners of these cleaners now. I suspect you are right, probably eldrerly people would of bought them or people who wanted to buy into the Hoover brand (at the time, who wouldn't?) but couldn't afford one of the higher end Hoovers I.E the Turbopower/Turbomaster Total Systems...These cleaners are indeed very ligh, almost as light as an Oreck (but of course MUCH better!) I weighed it with the cord on it and it came in at 11 pounds.

I found one of these at the side of the road years ago. Couldn't get it to work, and couldn't get into the motor due to the sealed box design. It was also truly screwed, heavily beaten up!

Was a funky looking thing though, was always sad that I couldnt fix it and have a play!

I have just noticed now that the hood is very similar to the design of the Electrolux Twin Turbo of the 1980s.

This reminds me a lot of mother's Hoover Elite? 200. It flew well, yes lightweight too.

Don't you think the non-headlight Turbopowers look like the later Electrolux 500 series?...The one in the far bottom left hand corner.
