Called in at my local Goodwill this afternoon, and found an Electrolux Trivac 2102. The machine was completely new to me, as I had never seen one before. Tried the vac in the store and it sounded good, checked the bag (looked new), and decided that while not abused, the vac does need to have a Magic Eraser taken to it.

I was prepared to make this post in order to ask all sorts of questions about the vac's age, why it was made in Canada, and the availability of bags - then I did a search of the forum and found all of the information that I need to know.

I have been looking for a nice bagged broom vac for quick dashes through the kitchen, so am pretty pleased with my purchase. Not only are bags still available, but the machine feels solid, not flimsy. Not bad for $2.99.

Oh, one question though: Trivac - I can figure out two configurations of this vacuum: as an upright broom vacuum, and as a hand vac with the handle removed. Is there a third configuration that I am just not getting, hence the moniker Trivac?

Thanks,

Joe

Third configuration

Hi there, I'm not sure if this machine were to have tools and a hose but I have a TriVac and I use a Panasonic upright vacuum hose. It fits perfectly on the suction intake when you take the floor nozzle off so it can be used as a compact canister. Also an Electrolux flip rug/floor tool will also fit at the suction intake as well. Great find and price!!

Hi Joe:

The original design called for a power nozzle on the machines so the 3 uses were PN upright for carpets, dual nozzle for floors or small parts for cars etc. Unfortunately they didn't put the power nozzle out with them. It was surposed to have the Canadian PN V on it. If you look at the bottom where the metal end enters the machine you can see a flat piece between that and the hook for the cord - that was surposed to house the power connection for the power nozzle. It was a simple set up and I have made one of the Brown ones up with the matching brown PN V for my collection. It works very well.

Was the brown one of these the first?

There were 4 models of tri vac (Dates are just off the top of my head but should be pretty close). Most of the time they were used as give aways - if you bought the double (vacuum and shampooer) they gave you a tri vac with it.

1421 - Yellow - 1976-78
1428 - Brown - 1978-82
1450 - Almond - 1982 - 85
2102 - Jadestone - 1985 -87

Tri-Vac

These came to US in mid 80s.They were priced about $99 and could be a T-trade.That is if you buy an Electrolux and trade your old vac you will get the Tri-Vac free.
Look in the handle for a plastic rod with hook on end. This is in case of rare clog in dirt tube leading to bag. With handle removed there is a snap in plug that can be removed to insert rod and pull out clog.
Collector2-Thanks for the Canadian info.I thought it WAS sold with power nozzle there.A local vac shop(not mine)would add a PN-4 when they found a Tri-Vac.You can also see the location molded in plastic for the rectangular hole for outlet.

Thanks...

...for the information!

I have been wondering about the purpose of the plastic rod with hooks. Now, I know.
