I've noticed that virtually every vacuum cleaner shop recommends the Royal carpet cleaner pictured below.  I've never used one, so I'm wondering, what's the deal with these?  Are they really better than a Hoover Spin Scrub?  Do they extract better and why do vacuum shops love them so much?  Does anyone have any experience with these?

I have 2 identical Spin Scrubs, but sometimes, their extraction abilities leave me disappointed and I was wondering of one of these would be better.  I've seen these Royals in person, but nothing really struck me as special about them... they just seemed heavy and bulky.  However, I've never used one, so I don't know how they work.

Well if they're owned by TTI then there's every possibility that there's a discounted price to match since these washers would probably be available under the Hoover and Dirt Devil line too.

These were available way before TTI took over Hoover... back in the early 2000s, they were also branded as Dirt Devil Platinum Force machines and sold alongside the Platinum Force bagless uprights and hand vacs...

It all comes down to profit. The Royal (formerly Dirt Devil) shampooer is no better, and in some cases, worse than the Hoover Spin Scrub. However, the Royal is not sold in big box stores. The Royal is the only carpet shampooer a vac shop can sell to make a large profit - the Hoover's lowest price is on Amazon.com They can't compete with Amazon on the same item. So, they tell people the Royal is 'better' (even though it isn't). Having worked on literally thousands of shampooers, I can say that the Hoover Max Extract 77 is the easiest machine to repair and maintain that I've ever known.

Thanks for explaining thatl Tom...  It just didn't seem that special to me and I couldn't figure out why they all loved it so much!

My Grandma had...

A Platinum Force carpet cleaner pictured below. Its a pretty good machine I say. Works nice and the hose is great! Love the 2 switches on the handle that controls brush and vacuum.

Only thing I have heard, I have not ever used one of these so It is only hearsay. These machines lack in the extraction phase behind the spin-scrub. The belt driven brushes tend to slip as with any belt driven brushroll after time, especially when wet.

When I was shopping for a deep cleaner, I found the Royal a little higher in price than the Hoover.
