One that i now proudly own!
THE 1979 KIRBY TRADITION!
I'm glad to finally take her home! I believe this a December '79 model, judging from what I believe is a date on the fan housing cast, And last time I check it had a suction relief vent in blue? Just the like Classic models (I'll have to double check when I get home later on). I popped a modified Royal style B bag in, and have to say, I'm sadly not too impressed with this model, I tried adjusting the brush (I adjusted it a bit too much, and the belt began burning :D), And while it appears to pick up sufficient dirt and pet hair, It does not not (If barely) Groom the carpeting as a Kirby should, what am I to do? I've heard of the issue with the fill-tubes being to narrow, Does it really put THAT much of dent in the machine's performance?
Anyways, I'm sorry I currently Do not have any pictures (The card on my camera ran full last night), I'll have to clear-off the card today and take some pictures of the machine (Along with the pictures of the TOWA EX66 Typewriter, Too whom it may concern).
The Switch in the headlight is defiantly, "Interesting", Let's put it that way. What I don't get is how Kirby missed that if the Headlight was down, the machine would power on, allowing contact with the fan (Yikes!).
Certainly an interesting machine to own, Please let me know what you guys think. -Alex. |

If there's no attachment installed on the fan case opening, the machine was designed not to run, even if the headlight hood was down. What happened is that over time, and with repeated slamming of the hood to close it, the safety switch would 'stick' in the 'run' position.
The fill tube makes a huge difference to the cleaning efficiency. Run the machine with the sani-emptor off the machine and you'll see what I mean. Many people change their Traditions by adding the mini-emptor from the Heritage II, allowing for the tremendous improvement in airflow that the larger fill tube provides, as well as allowing for the ability to use HEPA cloth disposable bags. You can always remove the fill tube from the Sani-Emptor and use the Tradition without the disposable bag. It should then be exactly like a Classic III. Do you have the instruction manual for your Tradition? |

They did. Some didn't even have suction reliefs, it appears?
I know a place where There's a Tradition nozzle with the Blue suction relief valve, but is the investment worth it? Which is more common?
I understand how the headlamp switch works now, There's a rod that sticks up into the headlight, triggering the switch :D If i can find them (I know a place...), Attachments and a manual would be handy D:
Also, Polishing is in progress ;)
