It's that time again. I'm hosting a mini/mega meet next Saturday, april29. I'm trying to reach Mike Gravelin and the NY bunch, as well as Rob Shore. Mark, J.T., Joe Kassock, Greg, Kevin and I will be there so far. I'm looking to plan t a short trip to a vac shop, soe games. video, and a nice diner as well. If anyone else can get to the Wilkes Barre/Scranton area, you are MOST welcome.

Not to worry... Holy Water, Crucifix, etc are ready. We might really need them. I've planned a very nice dinner, as well. Sorry for all of the bad spelling in first post. I was typing too fast. I might even expose some of the cellar dwellers... RELAX, TOM!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Not IN the house, AND, I have a huge supply of GLOVES!

I would love to visit a place like this. We don't have anything around here like it. |

Hi John, as of right now I plan on being there. I don't plan on bringing any foreign vacs this time. Looking forward to seeing Joel and Mike and perhaps uniting my Hoover Celebrity pieces together!
I haven't heard any word from Mark and JT and have tried to contact Mark! I hope they're ok! MassageMiracle-- Sweeper Central is John Gregorys store. Most if not all past MiniMeets at Johns involved a trip to this store. However, due to recent friction I don't believe this will be case anymore. |

I wish like heck that there were some way I could come and share my two British Turbopower 1s, my Junior Dirtsearcher, and my Senior Ranger with the gang along with the Convertible that's as old as I am! Plus, I wish I could finally find out what the heck PHIT (aka Pittston Hospital Iced Tea) is all about. But alas, Saturdays are not good days for me due to my work schedule.
Would you please keep me in mind, however, if you ever hold a meet on a Sunday? I have never been to one before, and hope that someday I'll be able to attend. Thanks and best wishes to all for a terrific get-together!

Bill, You should definitely plan a trip on a Sunday. Your collection is wonderful, I've seen and enjoyed several of your vacuums on Youtube to include, the Hoover Convertibles, Hoover Celebrities Video, Hoover Windtunnel S3630 video, Hoover Spirit video, Kenmore Progressive video and many others. I for one would love to try your Cinnamon Hoover Celebrity II Elite S3061. I love it in the video below.
Definitely should plan this as a Micro Meet and I'll come over as well. Sunday May 19 or May 26 would work good for me, possibly June 2. My other June weekends are hectic. Now through May 7 is bad for me too but I'm trying to stop in briefly for this Saturday's MiniMeet since its been so long! CLICK HERE TO GO TO Durango159's LINK |

I hope you got Mr. Gregory's address, too, if you plant to visit him at his store. The group will not be going there. But, being that you are such good friends, I'm sure you'll be planning a trip there. It is: 218 E Drinker Street, Dunmore, PA.That's the end of that discussion on my end....... You'll find it on the left side of the street, across from the 'diner'.Looks like there'll be 12 for dinner.

This Sunday idea is really sounding great. I'm thinking that Sunday June 2nd would work best for me. John, how does that work for you? And is it do-able for you also, Rob?
BTW Rob, I'd be happy to bring along the Celebrity II if you're going to be there!
Also Rob, I'm really glad you enjoy my videos, and I regret not having much time lately to put together new ones but I'm going to have to pretty soon as I've added some new machines to my collection and traded off, sold, or got rid of others.
Anyway gentlemen -- let me know and I'll see what arrangements I can make.

The objets d'Hoover have been safely packed into the back of the Explorer. Oh, what fun we shall have!
I tried to create a little "theme" for this visit. A Hoover product from every decade from the 1940s through the 1990s.
1940s: Model 61 with attachments 1950s: Model 62 1960s: Model 34 Special 1970s: Dial a Matic whose model number escapes me 1980s: Concept Two Electronic 1990s: Concept One U3315 and Legacy whose model number also escapes me |

The mega meet is well underway. Nine are in attendance. Mark and J.T. had a birthday party to attend, and MAY arrive later. WE made a nice trip to Scranton. WE stopped at Vac Way.Time constraints prohibited us from seeing the 300 'vintage ' vacuums located in a special room. Mr. Partyka promised me we can see them next time. Then, we moved on to The Radisson Hotel, the FORMER Lackawanna Station. It is a magnificent piece of art. Then, a nice dinner followed. The menu was:
Mascarpone dates with crushed pistachios, Waldorf salad, baked baby sea scallops wrapped in bacon, lobster bisque, chicken cordon bleu, twice baked potatoes. Dessert was cherry walnut cake. Photos will be posted soon. LOTS and LOTS of machines were humming. Thankfully, all of the non-HOOVER items were being used while I was in the kitchen. I'm glad they got the chance to get that all out of their systems. As usual, a fun time is being had by all. It was a chance for friends to return. Some met for the first time. More followups soon. |

And, I'm really looking forward to our "micro-meet" on June 2nd ... should be a LOT of fun! :) I'm bringing with me my two British Turbopower I's (the U2194 and the U2332) as well as my Junior Deluxe and Junior Dirtsearcher and -- as a special request by Durango159 -- my Celebrity II Elite. Also making an appearance will be my Convertible Model 70 -- the machine that's as old as I am!

Yes, I have acquired a new nickname and apparently my Decade 80 wheels were not well rounded. The front 2 whobble quite a bit and rear two have flat spots. But I have sold this machine to Chris and am confident he will remedy the situation with his stockpile of parts. A terrific day of discussing, learning and trading vacuums I think everyone left with things that did not have prior. Chris is now proud owner of my former Hoover Decade 80 and a beat up Hoover Encore Limited Edition that we thrifted which he will strip for parts. Joe is now proud owner of original tools from Matt's Hoover 61. Matt is now proud owner of a Hoover Dimension 900 that I gifted and a Eureka ESP from Chris. I am now proud owner of Mike's Hoover Dimension 1000. And it seems Greg is now proud owner of an outstanding blue, gorgeous JCPenney Convertible with 4.3Amp motor.
Additionally Joel returned my Hoover Celebrity Elite IV canister which sounds terrific and actually quieter than I expected it to be as well. It got properly mated with the Hoover Celebrity Elite IV power nozzle shown in reply 61 being tested on a Hoover Dimension 1000. Joel also bought a Quadraflex Powermatic power nozzle to fit my other Hoover Dimension 1000 canister. I now have 2 Hoover Dimension 1000 canisters. Both are the exact same blue with translucent tool cover. One is model number S3277 and the other is model number S3277-040. One is a 4 Horsepower and other is a 4.3 HP. Other than the Horsepower and sticker differences on the power nozzle and suction units these vacuums look exactly the same. I am working on acquiring a hose for the Dimension 1000 S3277-040. I will post pictures over the coming weeks of my collection editions. For now they are buried away so as not to cause a distraction to myself as I diligently do study for a Real Estate exam which I scheduled in a week and a half. This MiniMeet was tough one to make with that hecticness approaching but a great time was enjoyed. John even prepared a special Chicken Cordon Bleu prepared with American Cheese in-order to spare everyone of the consequences to be endured from exposing me to Swiss cheese. For that would that put a hex on the event!! On that note, I will be quiet and somewhat distant on Vacuumland for the next couple weeks. Hopefully good news is on the way though and my intense studying reigns successful. Thank you John for the wonderful gathering and hospitality. My calendar is marked and perhaps many of us will meet again on June 2, depending on schedules of Bill and John! --Until We Meet Again-- Best wishes, Happy Hoovering, and happy April showers to bring May flowers. Perhaps someone can answer this: If April showers bring May flowers, what do Mayflowers bring? Best wishes to all! |

remember, "I'm not mad at YOU, I'm mad at the DIRT!!"
There's still construction residue here and there, mostly here. There's still more construction coming. I didn't want to disappoint anyone by leaving NO dirt for them. And, Zippy, may I call you Zippy? Mayflowers carry ...furniture! The foreign species were removed, all has been totally cleaned afterwards. Matt left a jacket and a Dial-A-Matic behind. He'll have to return for them.Greg and Kevin, I'm glad you enjoyed your sleep...on those new HOOVER linens, freshly dried on the line outside. Ye were the first to sleep on them. I have a few other things being made as we speak. I've not been feeling 100% lately, so the minimeet was a great tonic for me. We'll see what June 2 brings. I'm glad you got to see that beautiful train station. I've rented the ballroom several times to host a dance competition. That building was scheduled to have a date with the wrecking ball. Thank GOD it was saved. It's ONE of my favorite places to take my friends when they come to town. More pics will follow. Hope you all are enjoying them. We certainly enjoyed ourselves. |

I was side tracked I stopped at Steve's Sewing Vacuum Quilting in King of Prussia very early Steve is always glad to see me I went there to pick up my orders that's my Home town then I stopped at Vacway to visit Mr. Partyka I got there at 11:30 and left around 12:30 pm I got a nice Kirby Sentria II from him they closed at 1 pm that's why you must have missed them .
There is no museum of 300 vacuums at Vacway there is only a trash pile because they throw away many vacuums daily . Then my next stop was the East coasts only Hoover authorized dealer in Dunmore to pick up many parts and Hoover vacuums that the wonderful owner had waiting for me . I stayed there many hours then went to dinner with him at a wonderful Italian Restaurant LA Cucina and then back home to NJ to unload my Benz with all the goodies . I had so much fun and will be back in a few weeks you never know I may just do a pop by now that I know where you live . Looks like you had a lot of nice Hoovers there . Dan |

For those interested:
I just got off the phone with Jeff Partyka, the owner of Vac-Way. They do, indeed, have a room upstairs with many, many vintage vacs. Some are completely intact and others are not. They are used for parts for repairs.
The building is being torn down for neighborhood restoration. He told me that this will happen in August. He also told me that they are not going to take the vintage vacs. He extended an invitation for anyone to stop by to look at the vacs. Some can be taken for free, others for a nominal price. But - be there before August.
Thought you might like to know about this opportunity. Maybe an opportunity of a lifetime. Might even be worth a trip to Scranton! You might even want to call and talk to Jeff. Their number is 570-343-1121. They are located at 601 Cedar Street, Scranton, PA 18505.
Happy hunting!!!!!!

for that helpful info. He didn't tell me about ther demolition when we spoke on the phone.
I bought a Handivac and my aunt bought here 707 Convertible there years ago, when it was the only vac shop I knew in Scranton. Mr. Jones was my 'supplier' in Wilkes Barre, and, of course, the late Betty Fritz. I'll return up there very soon. More pillow cases are being transformed into HOOVER bedclothes this week in Philly. I 'know a guy'..... All is calm at the house now. it has rained ever since the mega meet ended. As Auntie Mame said, "Whil'st Diedra wept cool tears". Now, I must get myself in gear and finish the oask paneling in that t.v. room and completely redo another upstairs bedroom. Then, of course, the HOOVER "gallery", and the sunroom. i'll give Vac Way a good scanning this week. thanks, again, Greg. |

I wish I had the time to check out everyone's stories like you do John . Hope to see you very soon when I am back in your area to pick up my new Hoovers I ordered 😄

WOOD PREEN wax is great stuff, the closest to Johnson Wax Beautiflor that you can still find.
I love the Hoover polisher in the photo "But. Johnny Dearest, Can't I use the HOOVER?" --- a Model 5130 I believe it is? When we lived in Hampton, Virginia from 1959-1961 we had a neighbor who had one, but I never saw it. Didn't even know they had it until one of the sons, my childhood friend, told me about it just recently. He's the guy who fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine when he sent me his mom's beloved Electrolux Model E that she still had after all these years!
I'd love to find the all-turquoise version of that model sometime. It had a rug-shampooing set up as well as floor scrubber-polisher. |

Dan,
Please check your email. I'm now quite annoyed and don't appreciate where this has already gone! It's getting too childish and I think we're all better than that! Thanks for keeping Vacuumland a peaceful, mature, respectable environment for us to all to discuss, share and learn from each other about our experiences with vacuum cleaners whether professionally, as a hobbyist or just plain curiosity. Thanks so much. Happy Vacuuming and God Bless to all! Let's start the month of May on a positive note. Best Regards, Robert T. Shore Durango159 |

I don't appreciate where this is going as well. John again was a gracious host, it was extremely kind of him to put on a mini-meet, not to mention the fact that he has had several over the last few years. This is not an easy task but it certainly is appreciated by many, even those by who could not attend. And on top of that Vacuumland members who were there were kind enough to share their pictures and experiences.
Dan you weren't there, you don't have to give us a reason why, we are all adults here. Now please, you've had your say and I would appreciate it if you would not comment in this thread again. This thread started positive and lets have it continue on a positive note. It's the vacuums that are most important and their friends that share them in a safe and positive environment, nothing else should matter. |

Thanks John. I have 10 cans of Wood Preen! I found it on the Internet (see link) a couple of years ago when I first found four cans in an Ace Hardware store in San Clemente -- went googling for it and discovered it's still made, and bought six more cans of it. I found out that it's still sold in some Ace Hardware stores but none of them in the L.A. area.
I also have a full case of 24 brand-new cans of Beautiflor that I found on Facebook!! The seller had been listing them one at a time and I had been buying them. After buying four or five cans, I finally emailed to ask how many he had and when he told me he had a complete case (in the original J-W box!!), I made him an offer on the rest of them. O HAPPY DAY!! Gawd, I love that stuff. The scent just takes me right back to the late 1950s in Hampton, Virginia, when my mom used it with her Electrolux polisher.
So, I'm pretty well set as far as wax goes. Not to mention the various odds-and-ends of different sizes of Beautiflor that I've found over the years.
Will love to see more photos of your polishers! CLICK HERE TO GO TO Electrolux137's LINK |

..... a GREAT time.
Pittston is a five hour drive for my hubby and me. Well worth it. This was our second mini meet and we enjoyed it immensely, to say the least.
John, always the gracious host, and the company, knowledge and fun of some terrific friends made the weekend a perfect getaway weekend.
Now, I really want to attend the convention in June! Just need to work out the logistics. Really hoping to be there and meet some new friends.
Happy May! Happy vacuuming to all!

Someday you're gonna slide to your death in that house. I first used it when a nun had me polish 'a few things' for her. I also have Johnson's Paste wax, but, I think this goes on a lot better.
2 Bedrooms, 3 livingrooms, the diningroom and kitchen and the entranceway all have parquet or random length hardwood floors. Most were refinished and really don't require waxing like in the old days. Mummy would do it before Christmas. I scrubbed the old kitchen linoleum with a scrubber every week. I was very happy to see all of that go when I ripped out the kitchen. I remember one time, I polished the parquet floors. The cat ran through the room, "wiped out" and slid into the open refrigerator door. He almost killed himself. My father was blind for the last few years of his life. My mother would threaten to, A: rearrange all of the furniture or, B: polish those floors. Suffice it to say, you can't beat Preen Or HOOVER. |

John,
Love the movie reference on this thread. Hope you and Rob didn’t end up rolling around on the floor strangling each other and shouting obscenities by the end of the mini meet. For some reason the strangulation scene seems to stick in my mind when I think of that movie. For some it’s the wire hangers. Looks like everyone had a fun time. The "strangulation seen" that I think you're referring to Kenny is the first photo posted at the very top of this thread. In the front of that photo is a Eureka Express canister and at the top of the photo you see Mike Gravelin strangling John with a cord. That picture was from the October-- Halloween MiniMeet. I did not bring along the Eureka Express for this most recent MiniMeet. However, the Eureka RotoMatic 1784 did make the trip again this time with 2 power nozzles for it. So of course John had his ritual for ridding the house of any bad omens resulting from non-Hoover invaders to the premises!! In addition to my Eureka, Mike brought a Filter Queen and Greg bought a Compact, so there were 3 power nozzle canister invaders in the house!!
I believe this MiniMeet represented my third gathering in the area. John and I get along quite well. In addition to the 1 invader I brought this last trip I also had several Hoovers to include: Decade 80 U4159, Convertible U4413-042, power nozzle for Celebrity IV Elite and suction unit for a Dimension 1000 S3277-040. I left the MiniMeet minus one Decade 80 but plus suction unit for Celebrity IV Elite S3141, power nozzle for a Dimension 1000 S3277-040 and an entire other Dimension 1000 power team canister S3277. So, therefore NO, John and I nor did anybody else strangle or rub one another the wrong way. We all had tons of fun. It was wonderful to meet Chris and Matt for the first time while reuniting with all of the faces of whom we've met before. LOTS of vacuums were run, lots of pictures were taken, great laughs had and of course a wonderful meal prepared by scratch from John. The hospitality and thoughtfulness to bring together 9 of us was very nice. |

I didn't mean for it to sound that way! The strangulation scene from Mommie Dearest is one that I remember the most because it was so violent. In reply #81 it looked like you were playing the part of Christina when Joan Crawford had her scrub the bathroom floor. Since it looked like you were playing the part of Christina I threw in the strangulation scene. I haven’t seen Mommie Dearest in a long time.
It’s so easy to be misunderstood online. Sorry about that. I know you all had a great time! Kenny This post was last edited 05/02/2013 at 18:58 |

All these old movies. I enjoyed acting out scenes but I'm out of touch and don't think I've ever seen the movie Mommy Dearest to understand it all. That one and I remember there was another movie we were discussing at the October MiniMeet with a big vacuum scene at the end. I saw the movie sitting with a bunch of others on Johns cabinet but can't think of the name right now.
I'm behind on movies though. We could host Dinner and a Movie, just like they used to have on one of those TV channels years ago. I'm fine with a simple basic dinner too. Pizza, salad, a movie and vacuums and I'll be fine!! |

You HAVEN'T seen Mommie Dearest????? Well, THAT'LL be part of the next meet. Also, I hoped to play the vacuum scene from Jerry Lewis's "Who's Minding The Store"? It's wonderful.
Of course, we ALL know it was all done in fun. Invitations will go out for the next one. Sometimes, 'simple' is good. Sometimes, I like to use all of the 'formal' stuff. Why have it if we can't all enjoy it? It's certainly not to falsely impress. But, everyone who has ever shared a meal on the stuff already knows that. I've been at wonderful things at my sister's home in Virginia. The house can be filled with people who have more degrees than a thermometer, more finances than I could imagine. The best part.... You'd never know it at all. There's never a need to "impress", other than being good friends. I have friendships like that, too.I'm also grateful that everyone appreciates my passion/devotion for all things HOOVER, and, that I open my home to my friends, even if the like 'other species'. This old place will always be open to my friends. They are the people who want to be there, and folks I want there. Now, everyone watch Mommie Dearest. You're gonna be quizzed afterwards. |

We had a HOOVER 67 Convertible. My dad bought it 2 weeks before I was born. My grandmother had a big , loud 28, which scared me. My aunt and uncle had a beautiful 69 (Neptune Green). I thought it was the 'last word'. My aunt in New York, (now buried back in Ireland), had a 70 (Delft Blue). It was the first time I saw the "small badge"(sticker). We had tenants who replaced a 28 with a 1070. It was the first time I had seen that square hood, huge light, brown bag with Marine Blue hood. I was aghast!! I soon got over that! So, that was the "beginning" of it all.

Greg and Kevin brought home baked goods to the meet. They were a 'friendship' bread, and 2 green tomato breads..They'd remind you of zucchinni. THey are still being enjoyed.
On a side note: The t.v. program, "THE OFFICE" ended the other day. A weekend long celebration was held in Scranon, where the show is depicted. The ENTIRE cast of the show was at that terain station. Steve Carrell was even here. It was booked solid. Tthe new PNC Field, (baseball) was filled as well. People cam from all over the country for the "wrap party". It was wild. I stayed far away from Scranton all weekend. I personally never liked the show, but.....I don't have to. So, suffice it to say, recently, Scranton, "The Electric City" was a swingin' place. Thanks, again, Greg and Kevin, for the friendship bread, but, more important, the 'friendship'. |

One of my favorite sayings is: "Friends are the famiily you make for yourself."
How true.
Am looking really hard at the prospect of attending the convention. All I need do is work on the "transportation" aspects. Still looking for a "roomie"?
Now that "camp" opened and the trailer is mostly ready, we need to talk about transportion. |
