I noticed recently an unusual Regina upright at the thrift store. It was black and looked to me to be a rebadged Dirt Devil, maybe a Featherweight model, but clearly had the Regina name on it. I have never seen a plastic Regina upright other than the Housekeeper before. Has anyone seen one of these?

Get it

Many collectors consider any Regina upright rare . Even if this one might not be "rare" it is still cool I bet.

Very Rare Regina

The black Regina vacs were made by Dirt Devil after Royal bought the Regina name from Oreck. Oreck made an extremely rare, bagless Regina upright, in yellow and black. I've only seen two in my life, and this is one of them. They infringed on Dyson patents on the shroud, and were pulled off the market.

Saniway

The first models of Saniway vacuums were tan in color. After about a year on the market, they became the signature Red color that would carry them through to the end. I've only seen one of the tan Saniway's in my life - I was given the machine by a good friend (and former VCCC member) Frank Morgan.

When were those yellow Regina "dyson-clone" vacs produced?

The yellow bagless Regina was made in 2000, Oreck actually imported them with the Regina name on them. BUT, Dyson's patent on the shroud (the part with the holes in it - inside the bin) were not yet up. The machine was pulled from the market. Oreck did not want a legal fight with Dyson. Since the Regina was to be sold in Vac Shops, it wasn't part of their core business and they took only a small loss on the whole endeavor.
