It seems that I have started to collect Electrolux Save - N- Pay banks. Your mission, should you decided to accept it, is to fill in the blanks. I have seen on Ebay a small little leather "book", with a model XII on it. I also saw a little calendar thingy with a model XXX on that. Now, for the blank spaces...Anything between the XXX and the G ? Particularly wondering what they did for the "AE".

Electrolux Banks

I don't know much about the Electrolux banks aside from the fact they are very cool. I have looked at them on eBay myself. They are simply the cutest things.

Are you interested in Lux collectables in general or just the banks? I have a display case full of lux stuff so if you want an inventory all lux collectables that I'm aware of let me know.

As for the banks I have never seen anything prior to the model G. I have never seen anything later than the Epic 6500. I have never seen any other banks of plastic canisters besides the 6500. Everything between those two is quite rare with the exception of the 1205. I only have the G and the 6500 in my personal collection.
List of Banks I Have Seen:
Model G
1205
Golden J
Olympia (seems more common)
Silverado
Diamond J
Grand Marquise
Epic 6500

I don't recall seeing any Super J, or Ultralux banks but they probably exist.

Canadian banks also exist including red, green, and a chrome plated one.

I also own a slot machine bank from a Vegas convention in the 1980s if you want to include that in you list.

I have never seen a bank or anything similar for the E or AE. I do have an ash tray with a Model F on it. I also have a set of tie clasp and cufflinks with the E, and another set with the AE.

Wow, fast responses, kids

thanks. I would love to see your display case... However, I'm sure that I would "have to have one of those, and one of those". It was bad enough when I bought a pair of Compact salt and pepper shakers. LOL Thanks for the Bank Info. Hey, Electrogirl, I know they are cute. Charles, Cuff links, I've not seen those. But I did see an ashtray with a G on it. I was "watching" it on Ebay and forgot to bid in time.

OOOPPS!

I meant to list the banks I have aqcuirred: two tan "G"'s one 1205, one silverado,( I actually bought that one from a Lux dealer when they came out), an Olympia, and most recently, a green/turquoise "G". So, I guess that's six. I just might have to keep going on the others. Originally, I only wanted the ones in miniature of the actual machine that I have. But I don't have two tan G's, or a silverado. That blows that concept. Rick

If you stick to just the banks you will have a nice collection. You already have a good start by getting your hands on the rare Silverado bank. When it comes to ashtrays the model g version seems quite common so you will probably have another oportunity to get one if you just keep looking. I have also seen the ashtrays in the form of a Super j and a Model 30. I have yet to see a Model F version so pictures of that would be great.

As far as my own stuff goes, I'm just going to make a list. If you want pictures of anything just ask.
List:
Model G bank in box
Model 6500 bank in box
Electrolux "Sure Bet Bank". Styled like a slot machine advertising various models.
Electrolux Digital Transforming Calculator, Calander, and Clock
A pair of Diamond J wine glasses
A purple tie
Deck of playing cards
Silverado 1 ounce .999 silver art bar
Tie tack
10k gold Model 30 "50 a month club" tie bar
Model 30 25th anniversary pin (like the one on Charlie Lester's site)
White Plastic Pocket Knife
Wooden 75th anniversary pocket knife
Cheap wrist watch with Electrolux Logo
Nicer Watch with holgraphic face showing the floor pro and epic 6500
Bulova watch with Electrolux Logo (a favorite of mine)
Old style upright carrying bag with cut away picture
3 Self Sealing bags with advertising on the cardboard collers.

Incomplete List of Stuff I wish I had:
Pen with dirt sample under clear window
75th anniversary poster with the model 30
Diamond J Glasses
1920s Euro Electrolux Ash Trays (has logo only, no model vacuum)
Electrolux Logo Mudflaps
Tons of other stuff I can't remember

I encourage everyone to list their stuff so we can make a giant list so everyone can get an idea of all of the stuff that is out there.

WOW!!

Well, holy cow....When I sold Lux's at the transition from Golden J to Super J, I kept the Electrolux Tiger Newspaper introducing the Super J. I Think I have a Gold Workbook, you know, that you kept credit forms, business cards, etc. in. Other than that I have nothing else 'cause you have it all. Fantastic!!!! Were you a dealer? Branch manager?

"Ghost Busters" toy vac. I always thought the designers of this modeled it after a Lux 30/LX. You also see a ghost figure on a clear stand brandishing a dust-buster!

Specially designed Kirby miniature, based on the coin bank. I made the bag from an old pair of slacks, created the logo on the Mac, the cord is thin black wire with a u-prong connector for the plug. I also added the correct belt lifter logo.

I had some fun with this once on the old vccc forum - I posted some photos of this with a plain background so you couldn't get a size reference, concealed the plug, and asked everyone if they had ever seen such a model of Kirby before. I pretty much pulled everyone's leg with it!

Somewhere around here, I have (or had) the Lux XII leatherette bank that looks like a small leather-bound volume, but I don't know what's become of it.

Post# 21679 , Reply# 37   10/7/2007 at 00:39 (6,038 days old) by charles~richard ()

There is an XXX ashtray the same as the F shown above (plaster base spray-painted gold), but the machine is more highly detailed than the F. I do not have one of these but have seen them. Since there was an XXX and F, there may have also been LX, E and AE ash trays as well. Talk about something to look for!

Other stuff I have seen:

- turquoise G & power nozzle ash try - same style as the tan G shown above

- Lux G rug washer paperweight (I think?) -- it was pretty big, about 4" in diameter

- Filter Queen wrinkle-finish - bank? ?? don't remember what it was

- Silver wrinkle-finish Rex-Air bank

- Silver wrinkle-finish Rex-Air paperweight - solid and heavy!

What else.......? I am sure I have seen other stuff.......

Really nice etched drinking glasses with Lux G and B7 floor polisher

OH -- I also have a set of four plastic tumblers with line drawings of various Model G scenes on them.

Charles~Richard, your collection is fascinating, not boring. Did Hoover have models in addition to the upright tape measures? I saw a couple at a repair shop, the man didn't mention tape measures. I always wanted a Constellation tape measure, and now the GE Swivel-Top and Reach-Easy ones also. Or the sewing kits. Keep 'em coming!

Awesome!

I really enjoyed seeing your miniatures up close. The bank thing was used by other brands then Electrolux. I remember back in 1970 seeing a new Kirby classic and wondering why they changed the handle style. Then even more perplexed by the
fact that plastic panel on the back of the handle. Then
with a slit in it and then a knob to unscrew to take it off?
It wasn't until I had a demo in my home in Aug. of 1970 for the new Kirby Classic that I bought.
That I found out I was suppose to save my change in the back of the
handle to make my $14.00 a month payment.
Charles, I love the two kirby's especially the one you made the bag for!!

Great Collection of Miniatures, Charles!

hygiene903's profile picture
I never realized how many miniatures were made over the years. I do have a few myself, including a Hoover Constellation tape measure, Matchbox Hoover truck (Ford Model T), and a turquoise Electrolux G bank, which is the most cherished of these, because my uncle gave it to me when he was selling Electrolux.
It's amazing too, the detail some of them had, especially the mini Kirbys and the GE Swiveltop sewing kit, and the Lux banks.

Nice collection Charles. Did you get that tie on ebay? I think you out bid me on it. Anyway, if I remember correctly they also made a pillow with that same pattern.

The model G ashtray is near the top of my list. It's too bad the model G does not look that good in real life. When it comes to the power nozzles on ashtrays, I too have seen them. Many seem to be broken so they are quite a bit rarer.

List of other things I remember seeing but don't have:
Super J book ends
Fountain Pen
Paper Diamond J coasters
Olympia One Olympic Medal

I don't remember getting any ties on eBay but due to premature senility, I won't deny it. I did get three different ties, a t-shirt, and the Izod shirt, along with a bunch of service literature in binders, from a woman who used to work at the Bristol, Virginia plant before it closed. She found me on the web and offered to basically send me everything she had taken home from her office. She wanted no memories of Electrolux, she said, because of the way her layoff (and that of her friends) had been handled. Oh, I also got a frisbee with the 1205-style Electrolux logo from her.

I have also seen the heavy book ends now that you mention them. I also have a very heavy plate, made of cast iron or some similar hard metal, the size of a small dinner plate, that's a 50th anniversary commemorative plate. It's painted gold and has the first 50 year's worth of models around the perimeter of the plate.

Electrolux REALLY made a lot of customer incentives and sales awards. A lot of it was pretty crappy stuff! But some of it, the things that big-sellers got, was nice. Pure gold rings with gems including diamonds, high-end watches, other gold jewelry, vacation trips, cars.......

When I think about it, how Masonic does that Electrolux brass coaster look? the Triangle/Prism motif etc.

Post# 21776 , Reply# 73   10/8/2007 at 17:26 (6,037 days old) by charles~richard ()

How Masonic does that Electrolux brass coaster look?

Oh, absolutely. As I commented in a previous thread about the air-powered floor polisher, early Electrolux was rife with Masonic and other estoeric symbolism.

It would not be too much of a stretch to assume that Wenner-Gren was a high-degree Mason along with most if not all the early investors, board, founders, etc., of the company; and it's similarly likely that many of the industrial designers were Masons as well, including Lurelle Guild et al.

And surely many of the salesmen were "lodge brothers."

Even the "fraternal" nature of the company in its early days was strangely similar to the structure of a Masonic lodge.

What a great collection of items there. I have only the one Sav a bank. I've probably bypassed more items over the years just not looking closely enough in display cabinets or knick knack shelves in flea markets etc.

I do like the Tie though, it has a certain classiness to it ;p

I have also seen a set of 4 glasses for the Air-Way 77. They were neat, but I never thought to buy them. I am more interested in the vacuums, myself, but if I came across some for much cheaper, I'd DEFINITELY go for them! They were $20, I think.

~~K~~

Charles, you have an AWESOME collection of vacuum memorabilia!! In fact, all of this stuff is SO COOL!!

Something else I just remembered seeing -- a "Magic Sponge." Very, very flat sponge, maybe 1/8" thick, about the size of the palm of your hand, in the shape of the G.E. Roll Easy and with a line drawing of the machine printed in turquoise ink on the sponge on one side, and printed directions on the other side. When you wet the sponge, it would expand into a full-size sponge. I have only seen a photo of this, never the real thing.

See link - one of these was listed some time ago and as I recall went for well over a hundred bucks.
