My only memory of a Rainbow was when I was about 5. My parents ran a trailer park and rented lots to those who owned thier own trailers. We had an elderly couple renting and the wife had gotten sick and was in the hospital (she died not long after). The man came over one day and informed my Mom the septic tank had backed up and spilled all over the bathroom and into the hall. I guess he didn't know much about housework because he expected my Mom to clean it up. It was the landlord's responsibility anyway. He showed her his wife's Rainbow because he knew it could pick up liquid and Mom used it to clean all that up. She later cleaned the machine after she emptied it. That vacuum saved the flooring in that trailer which was thier only home and later when he remarried they moved to Florida and took it with them and lived in it for the rest of thier lives.

My grandmother has a Rainbow D3, which they bought from a d-t-d salesman. I remember looking at it a lot as a kid. I only saw her use it once, she got it out and did some vacuuming with it to show me how it worked. She only used the shampoo attachment a few times.

Also, my mother cleaned house for someone that had a Rainbow as well, I don't know what model it was. She said she didn't like it because of having to refill and empty it all the time.

I thought about adding one to my collection one day. The used ones I see around here are still quite expensive though.

Are you saying she bought you a brand new latest rainbow? Wow - what a gift - an expensive gift! Cool!

She must have thought that you REALLY wanted one to have done that for you :)
