Yesterday a customer brings in a Royal Power Cast 9000 for service. It is only the third I have seen and first ever from a customer.Nice vac with retro styling that is part Dirt Devil and mostly metal Royal. It has-2 motors, gear belt with reset, type U bag, cord hooks with push button quick release, foot pedal for height(but no indicator as found on Sears power nozzle) and easy hose connection(similar to Dial-A-Matic).The main problems were-broken cord at handle(fixed) and foot pedal handle release will not lock in upright position.--My question(that was not fully answered by a parts supplier)is if anyone has a Power cast, what is worn to cause handle to not lock?Does the white plastic piece at left side of motor housing extend further than approx 1 in and lock in 2 positions or one?The foot pedal and spring seem fine.--Also your overall experience with.I would consider this to be a modern 'classic'.Agree?

Same issues...

I just happened across your thread while searching for parts for my Royal Powercast 9000. I have the EXACT same issues with mine and preparing to order a power cord for mine and replace on my own. May I ask where you purchased your cord from and how difficult it was to replace? I took apart the handle and see that the wires seem to have connectors but unsure if the new power cord will come with those also? As far as, that part for the handle release, I was searching for the part that you speak about, the white plastic piece because it seems as though a piece broke off from it causing the pedal to not function like it needs to. I am very curious to see if you get an answer to this because my vacuum will be good as new if I can fix it.
Would you also be able to tell me if the HEPA filter is washable? I took it out and checked the price to replace and not sure if I can afford to do that yet.

Broken handle release

I have a friend who owns a Powercast 9000, and it has the same problem with the handle.  I believe I read somewhere that this was a common problem with this model.

Royal Powercast 9000 repair problem

I LOOOOVE my SUPER HEAVY Powercast 9000. It really SUCKS. I had the little white plastic lock at the base of the handle break too!! Simple solution...I use a bungee cord that is the right length (fairly short). Hook it under the power head and then to the corded up cord. It works GREAT!!! I've jerry-rigged the cord at the handle with a short wrap around bungee cord and some duck tape so the cord won't move at the handle connection...kind of "floats free"...no wear/fraying problem whatsoever!!!! I am still amazed how well this 9000 works.

I had some clown (next door neighbor Bill) challenge me to his new Dyson. He has a short (about 1/2 inch) carpet. I said "be my guess, you go first". I told him he could go back and forth as many times as he wanted. After about 20 minutes he was done. You could see the dust and grime in the Dyson. It was just "OK". THEN, I went to work and 10 minutes latter we ripped open my new bag and saw ALL OF THE GUNK the Dyson had

missed and it was A LOT!!!! I'm still laughing!!
