I just got TWO Electrolux Epic 6500SR canister vacuums!

One is blue with beige trim

The other is two-tone grey (tools are dark grey & body & trim light grey)

The blue/beige one is complete; except it has a grey SideKick II; but the grey SideKick will have the correct machine it goes to.

The grey one is missing the PN, combo tool & combo tool adapter; & the hose is white/sky blue instead of grey.  However I already have the SideKick for the blue/beige Epic 6500SR; it's just waiting for the actual machine to arrive.

All I need to do is buy a two-tone grey hose for the grey Epic 6500SR & PN.

Is this the correct PN that's supposed to go with the grey Epic 6500SR?  Or is the PN supposed to be more "square" (like the PN that came with the blue/beige Epic 6500) instead of "curved" like the Renaissance/Epic 8000/Guardian?

What time period was the blue/beige Epic made/sold?

Which was the first Epic?

When did Aerus/Electrolux change from the combo rug/floor tool to just the regular floor brush?

These are my first Epic 6500SR with integrated electrified plastic wands; but I think the plastic wands aren't really a problem I. M. O. other than the reverse-fit tools

Pics are from eBay listings & before arrival; I will post more pics of my Epic 6500s when they arrive.

Can I ask you a question: When using this vacuum, the hose that connects to the unit, I notice on my Epic6500 that sometimes when pulling it along, I will hear a hissing sound and I have to jiggle the hose where it connects/enters the bag chamber area and it stops...I have to usually do this several times while vacuuming the house.....It's like the seal loosens slightly until you move the hose a little and the full seal is back. That annoys me.

Mark,

I had a 6500 and it also had the same problem with the hose connection. It did not seal very well depending on which way the hose was moved. I don't think the design for the hose connection was very good.

I had a blue/beige Epic 6500SR before I got the other 2 Epic 6500s & didn't have that "hissing" problem; could yours have a worn seal?

Is there a HEPA exhaust filter available for the Epic 6500? How much suction power do the Epic 6500s have compared to other Electrolux & TriStar vacuums?

Very nice find there with the two Electrolux Epic 6500 canisters! I personally want to find an Epic 6000 someday, which was the first model that had the metal pistol-grip hose, metal wands & sheath like most Electroluxes have.

The powerhead you want to buy....yes it would work & look nice, but it would not be correct. That design would have gone with the Rennaissance from the same time period, & is also used on the Centralux, 1st Aerus Guardian, Legacy, & Guardian Ultra. The correct PN would look identical to your beige/blue Epic's PN, except it would be in gray.

As for wanting a HEPA filter....all the plastic-bodied Luxes will accept the HEPA filter from the Guardian Ultra. However, to make it work, you will have to use the vacuum without the filter cover in place, as there won't be enough clearance for the HEPA filter to fit within the filter cover. I have a Canadian Electrolux AP280 back from the late 1970's, which is a plastic-bodied Lux, which takes the Guardian Ultra's HEPA filter perfectly fine.

So the Epic 6500 was the top of line & the Epic 6000 was mid-range when the Epic style was introduced?

When did Lux begin using the VM3 single-stage motors? If either of my Epic 6500s have that motor, can I replace them with an Ametek/Lamb high-performance #115923 motor; or would it not fit?

Is there a locking mechanism to keep the PN wands locked upright? I'm not sure if the spring locking clip (TriStar part #70280) will fit the Electrolux "L-shaped" PNs; both the Lux PN & TriStar PN are the same on the inside.

No....the Epic 6000 came out first, then the Epic 6500 replaced it.

The VM3 motors came out I would guess around 2004-2005. The high-performance Ametek motor you show here will not fit into a Electrolux plastic-bodied canister, as the metal block surrounding the field wires & armature is too tall. The only Ametek motors that will fit are the Filter Queen & Tri-Star Ametek double stage single speed motors. But you wouldn't see an improvement in performance by installing a Tri-Star Ametek motor, as it pulls 90" Waterlift, about the same as the Electrolux's double stage motor.

As for the locking clip for the PN, I can't help you there, I have never tried to modify a Lux L shaped PN before.

So I can convert a Epic 6500 to use the old style metal wands & pistol grip handle or am I stuck using the larger plastic wands on the Epic 6500?

Yes, any plastic-bodied Electrolux canister can use either the pistol-grip hose, metal wands & sheath, or the direct-connect hose & plastic wands. The hose connector to the canister is IDENTICAL on both.

Car vacing mode. I just need to order the combo duster/upholstery tool & combo tool adaptor in grey.

The bag chamber & inside exhaust filter cover were covered with pet hair; & the exhaust smells bad.

How do I disassemble a plastic tank Electrolux? I've never took one apart before; & this Epic 6500SR needs a good cleaning.

The hissing

where the hose connects to the unit. I don't know. It was a brand new hose and it's always done it......Probably the only thing I don't like about it......other than not much on board storage for tools. I deal with it as I'm vacuuming, but it's annoying. I can't believe it doesn't connect better than it does. It should be very tight......

I even put a filter inside the bag chamber in case the bag bursts and/or leaks. I also did the same thing with the other Electrolux vacuums (G, L, 1205 & Super J)

Those filters can be found at hardware stores & heating/cooling repair centers; it comes in 20" x 25" & can be cut down to desired size. It even eliminates odors & has 3 layers of filtration:

1. Green layer captures larger particles
2. White layer captures microscopic particles
3. Black charcoal layer captures odors

Hissing seal noise fix.

Silicone gasket sealent lube in a tube. As with any rubber gasket the rubber dries out and isn't quite as flexable/supple over time. I've had excellent results using silicone sealent lube on all my vacs rubber gaskets especially my Lux's. Works great on the large rubber motor gasket this really restores suction and apply with Qtip to the hose intake/inlet gasket. Suction's restired & No more hissing from the hose gasket.

Hope this works for you as well.

Lux PN mystery part

What is this part for?  Does it lock the PN elbow upright  It was clipped onto the PN elbow; but I don't know what this part is supposed to do. At least the Epic 6500 PN is quieter than the other Lux PNs & TriStar EXL PN I own.
