A nice little article from 2007 about an 86 (now 91) year old man, Geroege, who bought his Hoover 612 upright in 1949, he said he still uses it. I hope he is still alive and well and still has his old Hoover in weekly use.

he would have paid more than £15

In 1949. That was the year it was introduced (here) and would have cost £33.375p, on heck of a lot of money for the time - well it was the TOL model.

Its funny that he mentions how noisy it is for I have always found the 612 one of the nicest sounding Hoovers of them all

So as well as forgetting how much he paid for it, he's also forgotten that there was a new dustbag at some point. I'd have expected it to need at least one belt too. But who am I to speak when my memory is really not quite what it probably never was.

How old is mine ??

Funny really, have just put new brushes in mine and given it a new belt. Had to bring the old girl out of retirement when the handle of my Kirby daily driver broke.

Any body know if & where I can obtain a new bag? The one I have is one from a commercial (has the reinforcements on it)and is starting to show it's age. I emptied our local repair shop of the last of their bags ages ago.

I hate to say this, but it cleans better than the kirby especially our bedroom carpet which is unusually stubborn in releasing it's grip on dirt. You do however get used to the 'TEC Drive'

Will take a photo and try to post it tomorrow.

I am not quite convinced the Junior would be better than a K
