I was wondering what's the most expensive production vacuum? Yes, I've seen the limited edition gold plated and diamond encrusted ones, but I'm talking mass produced.

I have a safety catalog that has vacs designed for cleanrooms, asbestos/mold removal etc that go for $5-$7K with filters costing $400-500+, being they have to contain potentially lethal dust, and or not contaminate surrounding areas I can see why.

Any other examples of expensive ones (eg over $700-$800)

Rainbow is usually one of the most expensive. I've seen them going for $2,500 or more. Kirby, Riccar, Miele, Aerus have models that are usually above $700.

When I sold Kirbys they were going for $1800, but now I hear they go for $3200!! Thats just insane!

Kirby/Rainbow/Filter Queen/Thermax/Aerus Electrolux/TriStar Compact costs about $2000 today. Very expensive but well worth the price.

$3,200!!!! Holy goshnfishes that's getting too far above what Middle America can afford. Talk about pricing yourself out of business. Mom gave $1,100 in 1999 for her Kirby and she got the shampooer and all kinds of shampoo, odor powder, tool caddy, all tools, plus bags and a free bottle of wash detergent as a gift. Whatever happened to the good ole days? LOL

Anybody with a little patience can buy a Kirby G series vac for $50 or less (without attachments) on Ebay or Craigslist. I'm going to pick up a G7D tomorrow for $20 (too heavy, where have i heard that before?). The ad was in spanish & apparently threw people off. I've paid an average of about $35 for my collection of G6 & newer Kirbys. I missed another $20 G7D recently by calling a day late & the guy just left it in the apartment he moved out of. Yes they are all on the dirty side & or in need of belts & such, but wholly molly do these rather awesome vacs depreciate fast... Miele, Rainbow, & even Fantoms not so much.
I'm hopping to nab a long sought after vac tomorrow as well the Kirby mentioned above...i'll post again tomorrow on the outcome of my efforts.

Filter Queen Majestic 85th Anniversary costs a whopping $3000.00!

I just bought another TriStar EXL for only $1.00 but it doesn't have the dusting, crevice & upholstery tools & PN; only the hose, wands, tool adaptor & bare floor brush.

Are TriStar vacuums quickly losing value lately? I'm refering to the A101 Series (EXL, MG1, MG2, MG3 & CS Series) Why are folks getting rid of those newer style TriStars or selling them so cheap?

All I know is that a 1999 TriStar EXL is EXACTLY the same cleaner as a 2013 TriStar CS; although the actual model # is A101 whether it's a 1999 model (EXL) a 2002 model (MG1) a 2004 model (MG2) a 2008 model (MG3) or a 2012 model (CS) Whenever the A101 style TriStar comes into my shop for repair, I replace the vacuum motor that was originally in it with a new Ametek #115923 high-performance motor; which beats most vacuums' suction power & pulls an amazing 110"+ water lift.

This is a pic of the Ametek #115923 high-performance 2-stage motor that I put on every TriStar A101 vacuum.

And I also replace the old style brush roller with a double-helix brush roller; which boosts grooming performance. Any TriStar A101 Series vacuum from my shop has unbeatable performance, both suction-wise & grooming-wise.

In addition to the HP vacuum motor & double-helix brush roller, I also install a HEPA motor filter & micro-lined paper bag (inside cloth bag) for unbeatable filtration.

In the UK, its Kirbys that are way more expensive than anything else. A Dyson DC41, which is about the most expensive plastivac costs about £400 ($600) A Miele S7 is about £350 ($525) but a Kirby Sentria 2 costs about £2000 ($3000) from a Kirby Salesman!

Darlink,
No body pays retail.
You can get a Brand-new-in-the-box Kirby Sentria II for around $750 if you catch a desperate dealer on a good day. $900 if not so good day.

Rainbow is another question. They flat out will not deal. They may give you $200 off for this, or $100 off if you give them the names of your closes friends and relatives complete with bank account numbers and title to their home. Otherwise, it's retail.

Check these out! these are surely over several grand!
www.minutemanvac.com/hazardous-ma...

I know they are definitely not household use, but they are expensive and they are production, so I'll count them in.

ULPA filters sound cool too! (Ultra Low Particulate Air filter)
From Wikipedia:
A ULPA filter can remove from the air at least 99.999% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria and any airborne particles with a size of 120 nanometres (0.12 micron) or larger.

That's pretty impressive!

My Filter Queen Princess3 has better suction than any other residential vac I have, including Kirby, Rainbow, Dyson and even my 2 year old shop vac!

Darling???

If you wish to respond to me, please do not use a condescending tone such as that. Thanks. And yes, people DO pay retail. Kirby has been sued and complaints have been filed for high price/high pressure tactics, particularly among the elderly. The same is probably true of any other door to door operation.

Post# 222398 , Reply# 11   3/7/2013 at 17:42 (4,038 days old) by gmerkt (Edmonds WA)

I've heard of Vortech Force outfits being sold for over $3K. As has been previously stated, the selling price of the distributor-sold product is often whatever the salesman can get.

... Harley and Christopher.

And yes, many people DO pay retail because they don't have the nerve or the savvy to negotiate ... particularly with high-pressure salespeople whose job it is to extract the maximum dollars out of you.

The fact of the matter is, EVERYTHING is negotiable.

Yes A Tacony product she is...

the 2nd switch tells you it's a Tandem Air model, this one being the Riccar Radiance / Rad 3.
Will be awhile before i can put it through it's paces as my bench is crammed with 1/2 finished vac projects right now.
I don't know if this design makes any worth while sense or not but i wanted one of these at a decent price & $50 seems decent as it needs some sorting but came with a pile of snazzy cloth Hepa bags, an extra filter & loads of attachments.

I even could have got one of those crazy pricey Minuteman vacs once for $75 but passed as they are usually used in labs & i had now idea what kind of substance may have been in that machine.

The Kirby was gifted to a daughter who aparently didn't know there is supposed to be a paper bag in there to collect the dust...or perhaps the parents didn't know either, whatever the case she runs but will need a major SpaIfication treatment as it was keep outside for a long period as well. Will be a testimony to these vacs if i can get it back to where it should be with minimal cost, at $20 i think i'll be satisfied with my buy.

Thrift store vacs are snapped up here in San Diego so quickly i'm only go to look if i'm already in the neighborhood as there is usually nothing but junk or over priced fixer-uppers to be found. Auctions or Craigslist are my main avenues for machines now.

I think the full manufacturer MSRP is only paid by government agencies or large corporations who don't pay attention to the price of the goods they buy. DTD vacs at full price are another matter altogether but i have got to think suchcustomers are getting fewer in number as the younger generations are more savvy about such things.

most expensive vac

From what I've priced in the past, Thermax is at the top of regular vacuums for price. But I don't know about Tristars or Aerus as other commenters have said they're up there too. The Kirby is just not worth the money for a brand new one, when the model from 5 years ago works the same and you can find them for 1/2 of the new ones.

if you think rainbows and kirby's are expensive...

then you should know that go vacuum sells a gold plated vacuum (link at the bottom of this post) and it is worth $1,000,000, but they reduced the price to $999,999 instead of $1,000,000. the price of this machine almost makes Kirbys and Rainbows sound cheap. I think that they didn't really make the vacuum and they just took a royal and plated it in gold and changed some things to make it seem like Go Vacuum actually made it and then plated it in gold.

Thanks for the info guys! Kirbyfan, I've seen the pics of the gold plated vac, and also a Hyla covered with either crystals or diamonds that was really expensive too!

I like my Kirbys, and my Royals, I love my Filter Queen, (super suction!) and my Rainbow is pretty good too, as a matter of fact. I just bought an Oreck "Buster" portable vac today for $5 and it's awesome for small tasks, and it's one of the US made ones too!

I don't understand ...

nycwriter's profile picture
... why the vacuum is a MILLION dollars.

With the price of gold today hovering just below $1600 an ounce, even if the sucker was made out of SOLID GOLD -- down to every last screw -- the 20 pounds of gold itself would be worth only about $385,000.

Several years ago looked on the Delphin website and they showed a stainless steel model for $4500.And Silver Kings go for $3200-3500.The gold Royal is a joke along with the crystal covered Hylas.A regular Royal would do just as well. For 1 Mil-you should be able to BUY the Royal factory-than all of the Royals you would want!

sold on ebay for $5,000...vastly lower than 1 million. See the link below to a previous thread on this topic. In that thread i linked to the completed ebay auction for the gold vacuum but that link no longer works. I think the money went to charity, but i'm not sure about that.

My Kirby Sentria

jfalberti's profile picture

As some of you probably remember, a few years ago, I wanted a new Sentria but decided I didn't want to pay the dealers price for it.  So I found parts on eBay, and from people here on this sight, and built a new Kirby for less than $600.00.  And that is with every optional attachment available for it except the Turbo Sander.  Here is a link to the original thread.

Sorry, it was said with the best Zsa-Zsa intentions.
I often forget that this side has no sense of humor and a sore pooter shoot.
I promise to not address you again--ever, if you promise to not take yourself so seriously..

And if someone pays too much, then that would be their problem now wouldn't it? Buyer beware.

Scams and unethical people are all over. Best thing is to not open the door. BTW--I work for a Department on Aging, so am aware of the scam on older adults. It is highly derogatory to call them elderly.

Post# 223625 , Reply# 24   3/14/2013 at 21:38 (4,031 days old) by gmerkt (Edmonds WA)

Well. I was unaware that the word elderly is derogatory. At age 62, I guess I'm in that bracket of whatever they might properly now call people of that ilk. My wife, a mere lass of 57, bridles when I use the term "senior schitizen" but only because of its scatological reference.

For myself, I've been called worse than elderly. How about crabby old man? By my wife, I might add.

Well said Chris, cue retail prices. Yes whilst one can haggle, it is more difficult to do so in the UK, even with a salesman or at a department store where the price is already fixed. Those with private vacuum shops don't tend to knock off cost prices anymore. Maybe its different in America.

Sadly most U.S vacuums in the U.K have always been overpriced. Kirby are the worst for hyping up the cost price and second to that brand, Oreck. However, it has to be said, the U.S seem to be paying mega cheap prices for even the cheapest vacuums on the market.

Example, the Dirt Devil Quick Power Cyclonic Upright Vacuum, UD70115 is $47-97 which is currently equivalent to £31.77 Our version of that vacuum in the UK was the Tesco vacuum, also sold at Argos a few years back under the Proaction label and Woolworths also had a version - general price was a few more pounds with Tesco papping off a silver version last year for double the price.

Due to economy then where one vacuum cleaner may be cheap to buy in the U.S, it 'aint the same for everyone in the world sadly.

if something is perceived to cost too much, or you don't have the funds to purchase you have two options:
1. Haggle or deal
2. Don't buy it.

I guess the third option would be whine and complain. I usually do this one.

In the past, I've had to remind my wife and children that I wasn't born crabby. It's been the result of a long, grinding process against my naturally free spirit. Or some BS like that.

Tennant truck vacuum--just what you need when the misses asks you to help her with the vacuuming!Remember seeing a broken down-very bad condition-one of these in an apartment garage area-used to live in that building-the building engineer said they used to use it to clean the apartment house parking lots-its engine blew and they just left it in the building garage. It was a huge direct air unit where the debris went thru a HUGE metal fan!It was sort of taken apart where you could see the fan and motor.
