So I bought this Hoover Decade 800 U4503-9 from 11/1988 on Ebay. Just like the one I bought 20+ years ago. Then the guy tells me he has this Decade 80 mint green U4161 but it has the crack in the base. So I took the base from the 800 and swapped out the cleaned up bail and hood, very cleverly rewired the handle for the power surge (did so without cutting the white wire connector) replaced the bag, tube, agitator and one lamp. Runs like new. Picks up dirt.

Aaron,

You do nice work! Thanks again for sending me the agitator. I like using these later models with the power seal attachments.

Could you do me a favor? I need you to post a picture of how to wire a Power-Surge switch in these Decade-80 style cleaners, I have a convertible under the name "Adavnatage",Of which i have all back together now, except for the switch.

If the wires are the same color:

The blue wire goes on top of the double terminal side of the switch, the orange on the bottom and the black one from the power cord is by it self on the other side where there should only be one terminal, I will try to take a picture of it next time I am fiddling around in my basement "laboratory" (evil laughter!)

Enjoy your Decade 80! It looks nice. I think we both have the same bag except my logo washed off.

I like mine except for the other day after using it, I decided to check the bag. I check it often but somehow it managed to get a large hole in the paper A bag. I had air and gunk all inside the outer bag. So I had to remove, vacuum it with another machine and wash it. Also the headlight bulbs are shorting out so I need to replace those.

That bag

Seems to match with many different color hoods. I found a bunch on Ebay.

Power Surge Wiring

Hope this helps Super-Sweeper: (I made this from spare parts) P.S. the dot on the back of the switch above the terminals is the top or the Off position. Also remember to separate the terminals with the partition inside the handle.

Some how I have aquired two of those. They are a sweet machine. I also have two Hoover Supremecys(the Burgundy one) and one Hoover Decade 800 (dark gray one) any way the ones I have doubles of I will have to put them in the pile to sell....One only needs one of each model. I think they are like rabbits and keep multiplying... Dan
