So, as I've mentioned before, I'll soon be making the move from Fort Wayne, Indiana all the way to Brisbane, Australia! So I'm looking into the vacuum market over there because, let's face it I'm a dork and you are, too, so don't hate. Anyway, I'm on the website for Godfrey's which is apparently the be all and end all in vacuum sales in much of Australia (I have a very good friend in the city of Ipswich which is about a half hour west of Brisbane. Ipswich is a city of about 175,000 people. They have 3 Godfrey's stores in Ipswich.) Ok, so on the Godfrey's website they have for sale a Sauber Intelligence vacuum cleaner that, to me, looks exactly or nearly so, to the new Aerus Lux Guardian Platinum that seems to be incredibly popular on these forums. Is this right? Are they essentially the same sweeper? I hope so, because I was deeply concerned that I wouldn't be able to find a decent vacuum over there as nearly everything is straight suction and bagless. Most I've seen are trashy TTI chinese built hoovers and vaxes, and even worse... what would appear to be EuroPro built SuperHero vacuums... ugh. I have seen that Miele has quite a presence, as does Dyson, but I would love it if This was a real live Aerus in Australia. Help me out Lux guys.

Lux International is not owned by Aerus. Aerus has a corporate collaborative partnership with Lux, but does not own it. See link below:

Thanks!

Wow, thanks. One of the things I noticed is an obviously more modern looking Power Nozzle. Has anyone used one with this PN? Do we know how well it does? Do we know if it will ever make it's way to the States? This intrigues me greatly.

Brace yourself Sean...

The prices here will be staggering compared to the USA. I too live in Brisbane (well about 50kms north - but work in the city) and have done for 15 years... I must say that the 'vintage market' in Brisbane is rather ordinary (very much a disposable society here) and the price of new machines are unbelievably expensive for what you get... Cheaply made plastivacs are what seems to drive sales here...

There does however seem to be a strong second-hand/used Kirby market though... Hopefully that will keep you occupied... The new Sauber sold here - and as Dan said previously - is the same machine... Ridiculously over-priced and appear to be only be sold at Godfreys stores at this stage... I have the previous model - love it - but it's not without its flaws - but overall for my needs a great machine.

I must mention also - Brisbane seems to be declining in offerings of upright machines (cheap nasty Volta's and the occasional Bissell) but really only offerings of Dyson and bottom of the range Hoover... Being an upright lover myself - have difficulty finding anything worth my time or dollars... Bosch, Miele and Dyson are abundant through David Jones - but again - overpriced for what they are...

You'll have so much fun exploring a new market with new toys to play with... Brisbane recently went through a major boom of everyone pulling carpets out of their homes and polishing floor boards and this has had a tremendous shift on what is on offer...

Sean, you're exploring will be great fun!

Cheers
Ste

The power nozzle for the Sauber is a Lux International design. It's an integrated drive brushroll-it doesn't use a belt. That's why it looks so different. It is TINY compared to most American power nozzles. Barely half the width of Aerus' 15" nozzle. In Europe, most homes have little carpet so straight suction is what they use. Aerus is redesigning the power nozzle for it's Platinum so who knows what's to come. All they say is increased dirt removal and quieter operation. I just hope they keep the L shape as I love that about them.

Streakers,

I've been looking at Godreys' website and the prices don't look to outlandish. The Miele S7210 Twist for instance is exactly the same price here, $399. Also, $1200 for a brand new Lux canister with power nozzle is just about right. And since the conversion rate from USD to AUD is vertually 1 to 1, they are basically the same price. I am appalled by the quantity of super cheap straight suction canisters, but I guess if most people have little or no carpet, then a straight suction may be all you need. One thing I am surprised at is the lack of even Dyson uprights. In America, most people don't even know that Dyson makes canister vacuums and many people who know would say they're hugely overpriced, especially since they have that useless turbo nozzle, but apparently over there all you can get is the cannisters, they're considered high end, and you have to pay extra for that horrible turbo nozzle if you want it at all. That really surprised me. I am looking forward to the move, the new experiences, and lets lot leave out that $16 per hour minimum wage.
