I was trolling Ebay the other night and was actually looking and bidding on another machine, when I got an out bid notice and said look at similar listings.

I already know the comments: Cheap plastic, impersonator, not the real Lux. And worst of all. . . (gasp) Bagless.

Anyway, the listing was for the Electrolux Versatility EL8501F (Bagless) upright. It had been a shop return, was clean and barely used etc. Retail for this machine on Sear’s website is $489.79, Amazon $349, with used or reconditioned $189. So I took a chance and put in a bid with 15 minutes to go on the auction. I entered a max bid of $60, and got it for $56 plus shipping. Shipping was a doozy because this thing weighs 31lbs.

So here are my pro’s and con’s of this machine trying to be very subjective:

Pro:
Long cord 30’
On board tools with extension wands
Air driven mini nozzle.
Quiet
HEPA after filter
14ft hose
Good hose end suction
Brush shut off for hard floors
Wide rear wheels makes maneuvering this large machine easier

Cons:
Heavy
Besides heavy is very top heavy can tip easily
Heavy handle weight
Bulky wide machine

Other cons that I observe but is preference. Though the brush grooms the carpet well, it does so in rows with a gap between each row. Reminding me much of a plowed field. I prefer a more even across the nozzle grooming. I also wonder if the brush has any dead spaces between these grooves. This is more noticeable on the plush style carpet and not so much on the lower pile Berber.

All in all I like the machine as a play toy. I am rather glad that it isn’t my only vacuum as I am not so sure I would “Love it”, but then again I take pity on the poor people that only have one vacuum anyway.

Aren't the ones at Big Lot, which I only saw the Nimble. But aren't they reconditioned machines?
At least locally they state they are factory reconditioned machines.

For $25, but i noticed the handle was cracked & backed off. The Versatility upright have been selling a lot in Craigslist here in San Diego they auction off vacuums by the pallet here that are being dumped by distributors like Sears...(see link)
I saw the ads for these newlux's both the Versatility & Nimble uprights so much i got curious & ended up with a Nimble for $50 which i have only used once but did like...quiet, though needlessly bulky.
Shark vacs in & out of the box are also everywhere in San Diego for $35 & up as they too are being liquidated here.
