Snapped up another thrift shop buy.
commercial eureka upright w shake out bag.

Initial test motor sounds great but bag was stuffed with about 10 pounds of solid matter so I put it away until I had time to clean it

I took the bag off from the bottom but the dirt won't come out
I stuck my hand inside & I can't feel dirt
I used a broom handle & still nothing.
Am I doing something wrong?

Does the top open by slipping off the metal?

Only thing I can think of is the bag had a seperation & sucked all the dirt between cloth layers which means the bag is not usable.

This thing is filled.

If I need to buy a new bag it may not be worth it.

Any advise

belt

 the belt is cracked.
Have a round hoover belt...is the eureka round belt longer?

Seems bags are not that $.
Maybe it would be better to get a outer bag w zipper & convert it to a F&G type.
Just never seemed all that healthy to use shake out bags.

tEureka commercial bags and belts

 To empty the bag, you must slide the large metal clip off the top of the bag, then upend the bag over a newspaper or garbage can to release the dirt. On Eureka commercial upright bags, there is a large pocket sewn into the lower interior of the bag to prevent dirt from spilling back into the fan chamber when the unit is not running, and to stop dirt from spilling onto the floor when the bag is removed for emptying. This also explains why you could not see the collected dirt from the bottom opening of the bag. Once you have emptied the bulk of the dirt, I recommend vacuuming the interior of the cloth bag with another cleaner, preferably a shop vac with a hose. That should restore proper cleaning efficiency.

As for belts, do not use the Hoover Convertible belts in your Eureka. The Hoover belts are of a smaller diameter than the Eureka belts, and will place undue strain on the motor if they do not break first. You will need to purchase Eureka style RD belts, which are readily available in all vacuum cleaner repair centers, as well as many hardware stores and home improvment centers.

Thats great news.
I tried to slip off the metal from the bag on the top but its not easy.

Vacumming the inside of the bag is a good idea but what about washing the bag
& airdrying it?

Hard to beleive the amount of heavy dirt in the bag.

Can't wait to clean her out & take it for a spin.
It has a mean vibrgroom sort of brush roll.

If the bag is in good condition (no excessive fraying, worn spots, etc.) You can carefully hand-wash the bag in warm water and mild detergent (such as Woolite.) Once the bag has been washed, blot up any excess moisture between two large, absorbent towels, then allow the bag to air-dry thoroughly before reattaching it to the cleaner. Do not use an automatic washing machine or dryer, as either may abrade the filtration fabric.

Also remember that, on the metal bag closure clip, one side is open and one side has metal projections to help keep the clip from sliding off in the other direction. It will be somewhat difficult to slide off because it has to be that tight to prevent dust leakage and to ensure that the clip does not pop off the top of the bag while it is inflated on the running cleaner. (That can be a very messy proposition.)

bag is in bath

 Got it off but it was a long struggle
Bag is almost like new
Vaccumed it & it smelled clean but figured a bath would make me feel better

plan to air dry
used some fabuloso so should have come here first but I had the energy to fight with the bag & just went with it as its really a nice vac

Its a Eureka Willaims model
older as it has a shag level.

 Looked up the williams eureka & it was changed to ab electrolux Sweden in 74 so guess the 73 is the year & the last year for Eureka Williams

Nice finds,the older ones with the metal base and any Eureka F&G uprights are really rare around here,I have that same ESP and was suprised to see a 99 date stamp on the bottom, That 6.5 Vibragroomer II does a great job. I fixed my Filter Queen Model 31x thanks to your archived thread on wiring, I had the same problem,the cord was off and couldn't remember what wires it attached to. Thank You
