Here's today's thrift store find. A hoover Convertible Guardsman. I took it apart & cleaned it thoroughly. Also, oiled all the bearings. She needs some further TLC with a Magic Eraser & the metal polished up & she will be good to go.

I used 2 of them at our church. I have 2 here, too.  It will be running long after you're gone.

Jason, I knew you would like the fact Ryan & I have matching machines!I was actually thinking that as I was buying this one. That was the biggest reason I bought it was to have matching machines. John, I can see that it's definitely built to last! Very solid & that cord could be used as a tow rope it's so tough. Not that I would ever entertain that idea! :)

It's fantastic looking. I love the design and styling of it. Enjoy. I liked this post on the facebook sites as well.

That is one gorgeous Guardsman!

I remember Service Merchandise carried that model in the early 1980s. I first saw it when my mother and I went there to purchase a new iron. Fortunately, the vacuum cleaners were right across the aisle, and I became fairly mesmerized looking at it. My mother had to wave her hand before my face to snap me out of it!

in september 2005 i joined ebay just to buy my u4313 guardsman manufactured in febuary 1989 from david cibran in texas for 636.00 and i never regreted spending that much for that hoover....it is still in my bedroom closet run every sunday with all my tom anderson vault units ....i am just a sealed in the box buyer but they are all in use ....i even sent my mint one from tti to the history walk when president gurreri wanted to know where sanitaires look came from i put the u4313 grip right in his hand and then he knew and that answered that question and started the convertible resurrection ...

When can we expect this event to occur? Is this part of the new upright product line you have spoken of?

I have a Hoover Guardsman just like that-got mine from the former Vacuum Cleaner Hospital-Was in the customer not pick up after 30 days pile. The customer had it fixed-but never claimed it-his loss--my gain!

I posted in the "Super Market" forum about this, but somehow the one I had was lost. I'm really wanting to get another one as this is a vacuum I really like, and I had put a lot of time and effort in making mine very nice and almost 100% complete. If anyone has one of these that they would be willing to sell for a reasonable price (I'm not willing to pay huge money for one, or most other old vacuums for that matter either) or trade, please let me know!
