Hello folks! 

 

I just purchased the following fans on ebay hoping that one will fit my first stage fan on my Silverado Deluxe (early).  The top fan was sacrificed in order to get the hub nut off.  However, it might have been already shot, being that the hub and nut rotated while holding the fan carefully.

 

To the experts:  I modified the pic from the seller and will post it.  This is all the information I had, but took a chance.  I labeled each fan.  Being the optimist, I think A. is the top (hub in), C. is the "bottom", hub out, D. hmmmm, maybe A or C?, and B.  Have no idea.   I just hope they are 5 " fans for my Silverado.  If my luck runs out, I'll give them away.  If anyone knows what type B is, just let me know and it's your's.

 

Here is the seller's description:


"These are four new Electrolux vacuum fans.  The one sitting on the box I cut open to take a picture.  It is for the last metal vacuums and early lexon ones.  The other fans are for the metal vacuums.  Two of them are the same and the third is different"

A and/or D

 Fan A and Fan D are the same, those are the first stage fans that fit most of the metal body tanks. Fan C should be the second stage fan for the same machines. Fan B however looks to be an Ametek fan possibly for a hoover motor? or a replacement Electrolux motor.

Elux fans

 Good info above.B might be for Diamond Jubilee(and late Silv).Hint-Remember opening of fan points toward bag that it will pull air through.On Elux is is possible to turn rear fan backwards and everything still fit as I learned the hard way in the Olympia days.

Thanks for the post.  After reading it, I went and got the damaged one.  Thankfully it's the only unlabeled piece off the motor besides the housing.  I have my system ready for when the fans come in.

 

The best thing I ever did when repairing, for the first time, a B&S vacu-jet engine from an edger was to have a "lab notebook".  I sketched, the best I could, what springs and other small pieces I took off, esp an old pneumatic governor.  My dad passed away last year, so I am trying to follow in his footsteps and repair/restore for my family and I.  The edger took 3 months...I needed breaks, but never gave up.  It worked but I think i left old fuel in it.  One day I'll learn.

 

My dad taught me so much.  I can now install and finish wooden floors and re-roof houses.  I could go on, but I have the same curiosity.  My A/C blower for my '96 Jeep died 3 years ago.  I was very fortunate to find the entire service manual online.  Using that as a guide, I troubleshooted until I found the problem.  Took 3 weeks in the summer.  The blower motor fan switch imbedded in the module.  I ordered one from a salvage yard for $75...better than $300.   This was supposed to be a short post...sorry.   ;-)

Fan B is really just a typical Motor fan from Probably the old die hard Lamb Series.....otherwise known as (Ametek) same thing. I cannot remember the sizes but the most common motor is the 5.7 inch, which would be the Lux, Compact, Filter Queen etc.......etc...... THe small up rites were around 5" and the Central vac's had bigger fans Again. Correct me if I'm wrong. Fans A,C & D are somewhat confusing becase of the spacer..shown in the photo.

I'm sure they're not all interchangeable.

The 1205 & Golden J are shorter than the Super J through 1521 machines, I think because of the larger motor starting with the Super J.

And I've always been told that the plastic body machines can't hold a metal body motor, and a metal can't hold a plastic motor, but I'm not certain about that.

The metal bodied cleaners and the plastic bodied cleaners used the same motor but with a different motor mount ring. They are interchangeable. I've used a High Tech 2100 motor (plastic body) to install into an UltraLux (metal body). Just changed the mounting ring.

reference to interchanging Electrolux fans the answer is yes. The same fan that is in a model E fits all cleaners up to the Diamond Jubilee(where they changed the motor completely). When they talk about the shaft being 5/8" longer, the part of the shaft the fan is on is the same length as the 1205. The fans on the Model Xll on up to Model LXl were the same.

I just

 found a slight error the fan for the E, and S were the same fans as the XXX and XLl. The Auto E on had the same fan.The early fans were 4 1/2" and the newer ones were 5".

If the motor is the same in the metal bodied & plastic bodied canisters, then why do vac shops sell the single stage Electro Motor motors with the adapter to install in the metal bodied canisters? Why not just use the double stage motor & re-use the mounting ring?

 can not sell genuine Electrolux motors.

Here in Canada, you CAN take an Aerus Electrolux to your local vac shop & get a genuine Electrolux motor for it. All the major distribution companies....Hibbert, Tip Top Parts & JohnnyVac, can get Electro Motor motors. All 3 motors they offer- the double stage Discovery upright motor, double stage plastic body canister motor, & the single stage metal body motor are genuine Electro Motor motors, EXACTLY IDENTICAL to what Electrolux was using before they became Aerus & sold their motor manufacturing division, & started sourcing their motors from Johnson Electric.
