For a model that was around do long these are very rare, particularly this torquoise model. From teh picture the handle fork does not look too bad and it looks like the flex is in decent condition too which is a good start. How handly are you with a needle, or so you have or know someone with a sewing machine as the zip replacement should be reasonably straighforward, although you might be hard pressed to get a torquoise one but something lihe a dress zip (it does not want to be too heavy as the material is quite light weight) in white with metal teeth should be a good substitute. Is the handle nice and firm on the fork? Of the three that have passed through my hands (still have two - one of these and one with the later gold hood) all the handles have all been a bit wobbly. If you ask nicely I can even post a picture with optional tool kit, which is even more rare than the cleaner itself Al |

I have always been curious about this model. It doesn't seem to fit in with the traditional styling of UK machines. I'm surprised hear these were cheaply built. The handle fork looks a bit flimsy, but everything else appears to be the usual for the 80s. The hood looks very similar to a Hoover design from the same period. It makes me wonder if Hotponit looked to Hoover for inspiration.

The Light and Easy was introduced in around late 1962 early 1963 as a replacement for the rather dated Hotpoint cleaner which could trace a direct lineage back to 1930s models - in that sense not unlike the Hoover Junior. This was an all new design although it operated in much the same manner as a Junior with the dust chute travelling to the back centre of the cleaner rather than to one side.
Its main rival was the Hoover Junior, although the Hotpoint was significantly cheaper, lighter and of course it had a top fill bag, possibly the first UK cleaner to have one. Initially it was offered in pink or torquoise colourways. In around 1967, in common with many other Hotpoint appliances, the styling was updated to the torquoise model shown above. It may have taken some styling cues from Hoover but it would have been the 65 (or rather 652 in our case) rather than any other model Al Here is an ad for its introduction in 1963 CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK |

Vacbear, the price of the cleaner in that TV commercial equates to around £420 in todays money, using a conversion website I just found. That is an astounding price. How much would a Hoover Junior have cost, do you know? |

Nice to see you posting, missed your input, at least in the threads I have been reading. I was going to say 26 guineas (which you and I both know is £27/6/- or in current currency £27.30) but going by this ad below, which should be roughly contemporary, it was just a shade lower. The price difference might not seem like much but for the time it was reasonably significant, by this time the Junior 1334 had been on the market getting on for 5 years and is starting to look a bit dated. However Hoover's stranglehold on the upright market was such that any other manufacturer was going to have a hard time up against them, and Hoover also extensivly promoted their cleaners as well. They are reasonably simple underneath with basically just the soleplate and a large plastic cover - in that respect not unlike a Junior. It operates in a similar mannner too with a horizontally mounted motor driving the brushroll. The front cover is removeable although this is only to access the belt, the tools were always connected using the pan connector on the front. Al CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK |

A few years ago before I got my Hotpoint LnE I was at the recycling centre(Tip) and as I was getting rid of my bit and pieces a car pulled up next to me and he started unloading his stuff. I noticed a complete Electrolux 345 which I went over and asked him for and he said "sure help ya self":o)I also noticed he had a torquoise Hotpoint LnE wirth all the attachments. But I didn't have the room for any more vacs at the time so I passed on it.I wish I had took it as well now lol.

My mum had a Hotpoint light and easy, she bought it in 1968 and had it until I was about 6 or seven (75/76). The height adjuster broke and mum had to tip the cleaner forward to make the brushes contact the carpet. She said when I was a baby I screamed the house down every time she vacuumed, she ended up putting me in my pram and leaving me in the garden whilst she vacuumed. Mum had the complete tool set, she bought this cleaner as it was recommended in Which?

Is it my failing eyesight, or is the pitch-fork and front cover not larger on the older model? |

that just jogged my memory. Mum kept the polish, a duster and a stiff hand brush ( for brushing dust away from the skirting board) in the cord storage pocket.
Robin, thanks for the pic of your Hotpoint, haven't seen one in that colour before. Vacbear,it appears from the advert showing the attachments that they connected straight into the cleaner, similar to a Junior, or have they just missed out the pan converter? |

The Hotpoint L & E on reply #28 looks a bit like a Eureka 1400 Series from the early 1970s.
Did Hoover and/or Eureka make these for Hotpoint? Were Hotpoint vacuums ever available here in the USA? |

Floor-a-Matic, I may be completely wrong but as far as I can tell Hotpoint did have at least one or two models available here in the 'States in the early part of the 20th Century (c. 1915). If I'm not mistaken, this predates Hotpoint's association with General Electric. After GE acquired Hotpoint, they (Hotpoint) no longer made vacuums -- the only models made had either the GE or Premier name on them. |
