Does anybody know when the Hoover Model 584 was made. Is this a good convertible series? There is one I might go for but I am not sure..

Model 584

was a promo model, introduced October 1964 and made in somewhat limited quantities until December 1968. The 584 was a blending of deluxe and special Convertibles, it had a full bumper and the zipper bag of deluxe machines, and the short cord/no headlight of the special models.
Its colors are garland green and pearl white, although the final models are painted light seal griege.
I'm at work, so I can give you the number produced.

I have a really early 584 in my collection from 1964. It has the large medallion, the shoe string thingy in the bag spring, and the speed switch under the casting.

is this the model ive seen refered to as "semi-commercial" in the past? was this an Official designation or something thought up more recently?

I stand corrected

Production dates for the 584 are June 1964 to December 1968. Still looking for the number produced.

David you are correct, this was designated as "semi-commercial"

Great Machine

Bought one new in December of '66 or '67 for my mom. If I
recall. I paid $49 or $59 for it at a discount store and
received a card for two packages of free "C" bags for
10 years. My Aunt had bought it from my dad along with the
free bags card. Some how I
ended up with it again in the late early 90's and I sold it.
I got one back from Tom and have been wanting to work on
it. They are great cleaners!! Always loved the color
and the zipper bag!
