Hi, I am new and naive to Super J repairs to here I go:

1. The fan housing is off. Thanks electrolux-dude! However I have a question. How does one remove the nut securing the fan to the hub-armature shaft. It rotates, so what is the best way (doing no harm to the armature or shaft) of securing it so that I can loosen the nut? The nut and parts of the fan housing have some rust, so I need to attend to it. I have new brushes and the commutator looks like a somewhat weathered penny. The "patina" is consistent with no blemishes or blackening.

2. The vacuum is a Silverado Deluxe and the metal body has some mild rusting around various edges. Are there any suggestions concerning repainting and the color? It's gray, but is there a brand of spray paint that is close to the original color?

I have taken apart the vacuum, replaced some control valve tubing and re-glued one of the connection "ports" that had broken off. Placed what i could in the dishwasher and she looks good. Just need to clean the motor.

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. When she is done, I will post a picture. One last thing, the suction was fairly good considering all the carbon dust and grime. Looks like 75% of the brushes were used up, so I have new ones.

Thanks!

Ricky Lewis

Paint for your Lux

Hi Ricky,

I Don't have a clue with regard to your motor issue asI've never pulled a Lux motor. However, I've had very good luck matching my Lux paint colors and repainting my machines using auto touch up spray paint.

Just a thought to remove fan nut.

This may or may not work, Spray the nut with a little DW40 let it sit over night.

Using a rubber glove securely hold the fan in place so it doesn't turn. Use a socket wrench to remove the nut. Just a thought.

Super J

As above glove or rag is good idea to also also protect your hand from CUTS!--Remember-With any fan to remove nut or shaft turn toward the pointed edge of fan-to tighten turn toward the curved portion of fan.--To paint-you can remove most parts as taking apart a jigsaw puzzle. To remove rubber bumpers, use heat such as blow dryer, soak in hot water or leave in hot car on suuny day.It will then stretch foward and away from mounting strip then slide off.Hope ths helps.

thanks

@kirbyguy: thanks for the heads up. I'll take a picture of my old gal and take it with me to the auto store. I did what you suggested with the WD-40... will try again the end of the week.

@caligula: thanks for the warm welcome. I feel at home with like-minded folks. :-)

@rugsucker: I wish I had posted this before last week. My cut has healed. "It was a mere flesh wound". I have some heavy work gloves for my next attempt.

On my Silverado Deluxe: It's an early built model with the serial number starting with " P ". I am happy to report it's the larger motor. The problem is when I hold the fanwheel, the nut and hub are rotating (armature also). Perhaps I'll approach it from the angle of attending to the rusted nut.
