Hello all, I was just wondering if anybody could tell me if the Sanitaire canisters that are like Eureka Mighty Mites are made in the U.S.A? If not, what would be a good U.S.A made vacuum be for under $150?

I don't know about Made in the U.S.A. or not but they are good vacs. Keep in mind though that bags are small so they'll lose suction fast. They are straight suction canisters, no power nozzle.

I've found a bunch on eBay some used one or two new and one from Overstock.com. Most have a power head included. In the U.S.A the power head canisters are more deluxe with larger bag capacity, better filtration and great suction. I think the build quality tends to be better too. I guess it really depends on your needs if you're looking for a small quick picker upper type of machine then a Eureka Mighty Mite or Hoover Portapower would work. If you're looking to do a house with bare floors, and any area rugs then a PN canister is great to have because suction tends to be much better than straight suction designed ones.

One of the red line commercial ones i'm not sure of it's country of origin but i found it too loud.
Perhaps stop into your local riccar/simplicity dealer and take a look at the lower end canisters?

The newer Sanitaire Mighty Mites are quite loud with the 12 amp motor. I have an older one from about 1989 with the 8 amp or so motor and it's quiet and powerful, a nice little vacuum.

Sorry about the late reply...

I do appreciate all the help. If it is as noisy as you say, another 12 amp screamer, I couldn't bare it. I saw some Carpet Pro uprights that aren't very common, though I think are made by Tacony in the U.S.? I really like the attractive pricing. I watched a GoVacuum Youtube review of one with a 10 amp motor that appeared to be quiet and efficient. Much like their Riccar and Simplicity counterparts. Does anybody have any knowledge of these machines? I really don't know why I am so obsessed with buying American, like it even makes a difference with our economy. It makes me feel good I guess.

Tacony manufactured Riccar and Simplicity machines are very powerful, reliable, well built machines. The introductory page on both company websites has a news video regarding their Built in America products. It's definitely worth your while to take a trip over to your local vacuum dealer and take a look at both lines. Every once in a while my local vac shop has refurbed Simplicity and Riccars from customers deciding to switch to an upright, upgrade to higher model, moving, etc.

Bottom view photo of Simplicity Gusto power nozzle shown below! If that doesn't look like a workhorse power nozzle then I don't know what does!!! 6 position height adjuster, lifetime, serpentine belt, motor resist, trouble indication light/ operation light, headlight, soft non marring rubber coated wheels on metal axles. Powerful, aggressive agitation. Riccar/ Simplicity canisters have 3 different electric power nozzles to suit needs for customers of different carpet styles, and budgets!

Here is my Riccar 1700 canister. I love. It has 5 variable speeds, I usually run the machine at 60% power for suction motor, there's lots of power at that setting and whisper quiet operation. If I need more power for a job, it's a finger tip button away.

That is quite an amazing canister! I love the power nozzle even more! If I had the money to put down on a Riccar Premium Radiance, I would buy one in a heartbeat. I'll keep my eyes peeled on eBay for something used I suppose.
