Ok guys, have been trying to remember the neighbors Lux, pretty sure it was a 1205 color I am at a loss, its a blank. I think the powerhead was chrome? Circa 72-73 maybe and I know she upgraded often, they were well off.My first Lux to use and my first canister with a power head. Was it blue maybe?

David, the lux 1205 was blue and made from 68 to 75. It was luxes PN 2. Great machine.

My first lux memory was my mom automatic E.

First Electrolux memory.

I wish I could say it was the LX, as it's my favorite, but no, my very first was the model XXX. Looking back it would have been a prewar, most likely 1940. As I've said many times, my maternal grandpa, Alexander Rowan, was the house director for a boys school called Choate (now Choate/Rosemary Hall) and he was the man who not only hired the maids to clean the school, but also bought the vacuum cleaners which were both Electrolux and Kirby. In the little storeroom next to his office was a very old model XXX. That was my first toy. Years later, that same XXX would be taken into the barber shop. If I was a good boy and sat still, I could vacuum up the clippings from my haircut. Yes, I behaved!

Our neighbor, Jeanette, had the model LX based on my grandpa's recomendation. A few years later another neighbor got a LXI. As for my paternal grandparents they had a postwar XXX, and later a model L. For our home, again it was the prewar XXX, until we got a model E. My grandmother (maternal) also had a model XX (20) which was very rare.

Then in January 1968, while I was still only 17, I happened to be in Hamden, Connecticut, standing waiting for a bus, and there I was in front of the Electrolux office! In the window was a new 1205, and a sign "now hiring!" I forgot about the bus and went into the office. Needless to say, they required parental approval, and it was only part time, but I did what I had said all my life. "When I grow up I'm going to work for Electrolux!

Little did I know that this was the first place I would start to dig research, not only on Electrolux, but a lot of other brands. John Lucia used to call me the "research junkie," he was right, and I still am.

I grew up using:

XXX
LX
Automatic E
1205 w/PN1 steel PN wand with blue plastic sheath & electrified hose that has the curved metal handle & built-in electric terminals on machine end.
1205-era B8 shampooer/polisher
Rug Washer (came with 1205)

That 1205 was the one my parents bought new around 1970.

Was my mom using her Olympia One, everyone else in the family had upright type sweepers except my mom and I remember her using that brown tank all over the house. When I was 12 we moved to a new home and the old Olympia One came with us and was still used for many more years. Mom tried a new Kenmore but ultimately went back to the Olympia! Finally in 2003 I bought her a NIB UltraLux 2000 and the Olympia one was retired. I now have it in my collection and it still runs as good as it did back in the early 80's!!!!

David, this thread needs a picture of the 1205 & PN.

This is my late model run 1205 with the electric hose (that still has full thumping suction). However the PN 2 cord & swivel are cream replacements (tho I think I have the turquoise fittings somewhere in the partz box). The PN connector socket is opposite the camera on the handle neck.
I used this 1205 as my daily driver today and remembered your query. Superb vacuum.

Dave

My first Lux memory was the Model XXX -- our neighbor across the street had one and my mother borrowed it sometimes. Also my maternal step-grandmother had one. I remember using both of these cleaners. This would have been from about 1954.

My paternal grandmother's neighbor and friend had a LX. Her son sold for Lux for a while and she told me she bought it from him. She used it together with her Hoover 28 which she always used for her carpeting.

We had an AE for a while with all the stuff including the garment bag which I thought was really neat.
