I found this post before but seem to have lost it so... apologies.

I have two 1963? 63 Kirby Sanitronics. Had them rebuilt by the Kirby guy here in Austin. He did a great job.

Question. If I accidentally hit the bag dust flies about in a great cloud. Well, a cloud. There is dust. Kinda defeats the purpose of vacuuming. So, is this just a fact of life? EG... don't hit the bag! Or can I clean, replace, or otherwise service the bag?

I know the first time my wife sees the dust cloud that will be the end of my beloved Kirby's. Family heirlooms.

Can you modify these old gals to use Hepa bags?

All input welcome. Thanks!

you could vacuum out the bag with another vacuum. I wouldnt put it in the washer, you most likely will wash the logo off.

dusty cloth bag

Some amount of dust coming through a cloth bag has been a fact of life sine the Hoover. This has been shown on many Rexair,Elux and AirWay demos. You might want a second bag unit, either genuine or replacement, set up with micron filter paper bags for daily vacuuming with the original for display.

If you have the Open Top bag you can take it off the metal Emtor and put it on a Heritage II Mini Emtor. That way you can use the HEPA synthetic bags. If you have the Closed Top bag with the plastic covered Bag Top Cover you can get a Heritage II Mini Emtor and put a used bag like a Legend II outer bag on it and use the Bag Top Cover you already have. I have done both. I will post a pic of my Dual Sanitronic 50 that shows what I did. I hope this helps.

Scotch Guard

You stated you hit/bumped the the bag & a poof of dust came out?

Providing the bag doesn't have a hole in it. I've found that vacuuming out the interior bag, hand wash it (cold water & woolite) allow the bag to completly dry.

Turn the bag inside out & spray Scotch Guard on the inside lining of the bag. This will help to seal the cloth fibers. The exterior of the cloth bag can also be sprayed as well.

However, If the cloth bag is omitting a great deal of dust just powering up the machine, it might be time to replace the old cloth bag with a new one. Or perhaps you can get a converter bag kit so the machine will accept the use of a paper bag. However, I'm not even sure if a bag converter kit is avaible for the older 500 series machines.

Hope this helps.

Sanitronic 50 bag conversion using Heritage II bag

I have a vinatage dual sanitronic 50. I have read a couple of places that a Heritage II bag with emtor will fit it. There is someone on Ebay selling the entire Heritage II bag assembly.

Want to convert the vacume to use hepa bags. Is this possible. Whats the other best alternative
