A week ago I got an oreck xl classic for $5 on craigslist. Well, I replaced the belt, and had to cut the zipper off the bag, as the lubricant wouldn't open the bag. The bag is now sealed with velcro. I replaced the paper bag too. The front wheels are rusted in place, and wd40 will not fix that either. Anyway, I think a $9 investment in an oreck is ok. It actually cleans short carpet pretty well. Yestarday, I got an electrolux pronto from a new volunteers of america, complete with the charger. Luckily, I checked the serial number and it was not one of the recalled prontos. I got it because I don"t have any rechargable stick vacs. $10 seems to be a good deal, as the newer version goes for $80-90 now i believe. From another volunteers of america I got a hoover windtunnel bagless for $10. It was dirty, had a broken filter case, a missing attachment cover, and was also missing one of the wands. But these are mainly minor fixes, so $10 I feel is ok for this. I'm sure I could find used parts at a vac store. By the way I saw another dirt devil roommate at a goodwill for $8, with the cord hook, the the brush was siezed, deeming it unusable. I also saw a cute toy miele canister for $7, but how could I use that? I also passed up a newer eureka whirlwind style upright, filthy, missing all of the attachments, for $17. If It was half off day, I may have considered it. Good deal guys? Will post pictures of actual vacs soon.
