Couldn't believe my luck, this is another vacuum that I have longed for and I finally got one for the princely sum of $20. I would have paid a lot more for it, one of the rare times I would. I'm not sure how old it is, probably newer than 1980 but I'm not sure. Anyways it is in almost mint condition. I bought it from an older woman who looked to be downsizing. She said it was too heavy for her to use and so it has hardly been used, clean as a whistle, she said it was and expensive vac when she bought it. Never thought to ask her when that was in my rush to get it home LOL

Glam close up

Not only does it say Self Propelled the words light up to tell you so as does the E logo.

She also had this handy Hoover Handvac 1 which I could couldn't leave behind. Now I'm thinking I forgot to ask her if she had anymore attachments for it. I'm guessing she does and had just been a bit forgetful so I'll ring her back.

I have always liked those Eureka uprights, the blue beeing my favorite. I currently have a brown/dark orange colored one. It is in good shape, but someone put a singe speed motor in it...

Pete, that Eureka reminds me on a popular toy Eureka of the early/mid 80s.

Your little Hoover is soo cute. Keep an eye on eBay for the style G bags. They are a bargain most of the time.

Oddly my Eureka collection is growing. I remember a year or two back I couldn't for the life of me find one. I do like them though, as much as the convertibles. It was just so nice to find one in such pristine condition I don't think I'll be using it much so that it stays that way.

Bag Change

Just so you know, the bag is not the orginal. It is the same filter
material, but would have been blue, maybe a little lighter blue. It would have had a plastic cap on the top of the bag
the same blue as the body! They were handsome machines back in the day (mid to late 80's). One of my favorites.

I was wondering that. It's almost the same bag as the non original on the greeny one I got only a couple of weeks ago. Funny though how the machine itself is so pristine that the bag would have to be changed out. Some of my other older ones like the Vanguard with cord reel still has it's original matching box top bag.

Well, I happen to notice a vacuum repair shop sticker on it. Most likely it was repaired/maintained by someone over the years, and they replaced the bag. But who knows...

~~K~~

Nice ESP, and I love the color. In Tucson I had the privilege of using the 16" Widetrack version Roger had recently found. IIRC his was maroon and tan. The thing that amazed me most about it, aside from the fact that it could CLEAN (pet hair was no match for the VG1), was that the self-propulsion was ultra-smooth. Rivaled even the TechDrive Kirby, and of course the two speeds were always a plus.

You're right the self propelling is quite smooth, certainly not as jerky as some of the Hoovers.
I wonder if I gave the bag a bath in some blue Rit dye it might look a little better, still it doesn't look that bad now and I'd hate to worsen it.

That's a nice Eureka, I love how the lettering on the top is lit up.
Is there any chance you could put up a picture of the bottom? I have never seen a power drive like this and I'm courious.
Thanks,
Nicholas

here's the underside. I noticed that both the drive wheels have a flat spot, quite a noticeable one in the same position on both wheels. I can't figure out if it's supposed to be like that or not. Maybe someone else will know..Bobby says his had teeth on the wheel. Could be these are replacement wheels, who knows. If you look closely at the rear wheels as shown in the picture you can see the flat spots are exposed to the camera

A 16 inch Wide Self Propelled????

Uhm....

This is gonna make me sound really stupid...but... THERE WAS A 16 INCH SELF PROPELLED EUREKA like the one pictured above. I've seen the blue one, and the burnt orange one of which I have had both. And then Have seen a later black and white model that Jeff Parker has, then later still the Eureka Self Propelled Precision which Kyle and I both have the baby blue and grey model.

Does anyone have a picture of this 16 Inch Self Propelled model?

And further...does anyone remember a 16 Inch household model that had the Cordaway reel on it? Or am I imagining this too? I can distinctly seein one that was at wards during the early 1980's....!!!

Chad

Thanks for those who reply...

Could the flat areas be wear, Pete? that's the first thing I thought...ya know, mechanical surface rubbing against another surface, bit of friction..melting plastic..

Just my guess lol.

Thanks for the pics Petek. I didn't realize that these were rear wheel drive. It is just like my Impala :) I have only seen Hoover self propeled machines before. I might just have to keep my eyes open for one of these. :)

You aren't imaging a 16 inch with cord reel. I have seen a few in my life. i know of one right now i could get to take. It is from the guy that i got the Hoover Dimension 1000 Electronic for you from. I'll give him a ring

Re my "flat tires". It could be thought that perhaps the machine was somehow sitting on something hot and both wheels got a flat spot since they are in the same position as the wheels turn. But then I'm also thinking maybe they are intentional as a way to stop the wheels from spinning in place on carpet. Someone else must have one to check out.

RE the rear drive wheels. Greg informs me that his Eureka self propelled did have nubby rear drive wheels. I believe his model was an older version. So either my wheels were changed out or they were redesign at sometime in the run of this vacuum. Anyone else have a newer Eureka self propelled can check the wheels?
