Wow!  That upright would be worth almost $500 in today's dollars!

That upright is one of the last Birtman Electric designs for Sears, isn't it? Anyone know when the Singer-made, twin fan Kenmore uprights first appeared?

Kenmore twin fan uprights

Whirlpool made the twin fan uprights. They came out in 1964,for Sears. I have an old catalog showing one for $69.95.

If you get a chance, I'd like to see that page. Meanwhile, best of luck in your search for that 1963 Kenmore. I wish I could help you with that, but the oldest Kenmores I've ever seen in my general vicinity are the Duo-Power hardbody uprights-and quite infrequently at that.

Here is the picture from the 1964 Sears fall & winter book.I have one of these two speeds, with a cord reel.I believe it's from 1965.The 64' book only offered this one. When the Duo powers'came out in 1966,I believe Sears switched to that model only.

Kenmore uprights

These are mine. The 116 on the left was a mother's day gift to my grandma, from my mother in 1947.The blue one, in the middle is from the mid 50's.I'd say 56 or 57.I know earlier ones like this are brown. The handle twists to get it into position. I think it has a replacement bag.Last is the 65 twin fan. All work great. The bumper on the oldest one is a little beat up. Other than that they've held up exceptionally well.

Mark,

Recently my friends Chad and Phillip found one like you have pictured above at an Estate sale. Chad called me and asked me if I wanted it and I said yes. Certain aspects of the Kenmore remind me of a two position convertible. The height adjustment is almost identical with the normal and high positions. Overall, I’m pleased with the vacuum it’s very cool! Thanks to Jimmy Martin for the attachments. The converter works well with both my Sunbeam and Kenmore upright.

The height adjustment of this Kenmore and the Hoover Convertible are very similar. I replaced the dust bag with a G.E. upright bag and it seems to be a perfect fit. Thanks for posting the date of the vacuum. My friend Phillip thought it was from the 60's.

Mark and Kenny,

Great looking machines!

Mark, I am going to dig out the picture of the miniature Kenmore upright that someone had at the Minneapolis VCCC Convention in 2011. It was a SPITTING image of the full-sized one that you are looking for.

I can't find a picture anywhere. Does anyone remember that toy Kenmore upright that looked just like the full-sized one that Mark is trying to find?

Re Birtman..

That is a Birtman design, but Whirlpool made it, Whirlpool took over Birtman as well as Seeger Refrigerator co in 1957.
