Hey Gordon, does this machine still have the woven hose? If so that is more than likely where the loss of suction is. The interior rubber disentegrates over time & breaks down, thus losing alot of the suction thru cracks & splits. A new replacement vinyl hose would be ideal for it. I have several Luxes & the one I have with a vinyl hose is much more maneuverable & user friendly.
Someone else here can better answer your questions on part availability & motor durability. $100 is alot for this vintage of machine that is 20 or more years old I would think especially considering it may need a replacement hose. There's one on Ebay at $90 in pretty rough shape right now, which is too much. |

Gordon, just so you are aware, only the Sidekick, bare floor tool & one set of those wands actually went with that machine. The rest are for a much older Lux model & I don't know what the plastic attachments go to. They even have the wrong bag in the machine & extra bags are wrong style. Those go with a newer model Lux.

An Electrolux Branch Manager, and salesman who had been in the business from the 1950s thru the late 1990s told me once that any machine that has the red lettering inside and above the bag door that reads "Use Only Genuine Electrolux Bags" has a cheaper and not near as long a lasting motor than any of the older models before it.
He must have been right, because i see alot of the older machines, Model G, 1205, Golden J,Olympia, ect, and even model XXX, model E, ect., that are still going strong today. |
