Hello, yesterday morning I purchased this Constellation for € 15. It is one of the last versions we had here in Italy, in this case in Lobster-0range/white colors. It was available also in Yellow/white. The cleaner is in TOP conditions and works fine. I fitted quite easily a kirby bag in it,don't know if any of you have already tryied to do it.Look at the pictures and tell me what you think about it.
Best whishes, Tommy

you just need to help seal to fit around inner metal tube with your fingers.

Nice to see you on here again!

I love that colour - I don't think it was ever sold in that shade in the UK, but it does suit it! A belated happy birthday to her!

I've never tried different different bags in a Connie, but one of my Juniors is running on a non-genuine Oreck high-filtration bag, at Seamus' suggestion. The filtration seems much better, but I think it's also clogged up rather faster. Interesting experiment though!

Bag

Tommy, Do you not have Hoover Constellation bags or did you just want improved filtration? Are bags not available where you are? I love your vacuum and i espeially like the combo carpet/floor brush that is with your vacuum. I wish we had that attachment here in the US. Great find!!!

Marty

Hello Marty, I own something like 15 Constellations, and of course, bags are still available in Italy,I simple didn't have one at home yesterday. Then I thought it would be great if I could fit a Kirby bag properly in it. It works wonderfully!

Where do you get Hoover Parts

Tommy, love seeing your vacuums and hearing about you finding them. I am courious, do you have Hoover stores where you go to get parts. For that matter, shops that specialize in Vacuum sales and repair only? Maybe just appliance
type stores where parts are available? Just wondering
how the market works in Italy

Norm, here in Italy there are many hoover authorised repair centers where it is possible to find spares and parts, but it is very difficult to find parts for old vacuums because, since hoover is under Candi's control the policy has changend from repairing into replacing. Have a look at the Hoover website www.hoover.it... or www.hoover.co.uk....what... a shame of vacuum cleaners they sell now, most of them are made in China.
However...I usually buy things like bags, belt, brushes and little more. I have parts for repairing the vacuums I find because, as the hoover range in Italy wasn't as wide as in the USA it happens to me to find several of the same models, so I can use the less beautiful for spares;-)

Wow that's neat Tommy. What Kirby bags did you use? I'd like to try that with my connie.
I've used a type S Hoover bag, but I didn't cut the cardboard very well and it didn't seal.
Thanks,
Nicholas

Your '77 Constellation has the type hose that my Commercial Portapower has. I don't like the too short hose on mine. I have the shoulder strap so I can walk about and clean, but I don't always want to carry it. You have a Fabulous Hoover Collection.

Hello, the hose is the classic double stretch hose we've always had in Italy and, believe me it's not short! However I'm so fashioned by theese old metal balls you can'y imagine...but when I think about how much dust they blow around I get a little bit scared...However this time with the idea of using the kirby hepa bag after cleaning thoroughly every recess of the vaccum cleaner, moro included, for the first tim I don't smell dust and I don't see any dust blown around.I often wonder why the Maytag satellite hasn't been designed a little bit better...a little bit closer to the quality of old constellation, wouldn't have been beautiful if it had, for example the same kind of tools as the vintage ones?
Does anybody knows if there is a 220 volts version of it?I'd be pleased to have one in my collection!|
best whishes, Tommy
