Those first Eureka Roto-Matic power nozzles were great, but ya think Eureka could've come up with a more original name instead of recycling a copyrighted name they used before?
These had the basic Eureka wooden Disturbulator brush roll: gold with red plastic beater bars and black non-replaceable brush strips. On another note, this thread would not be complete without that nifty Kenmore powermate that doubles as a stand-alone stick vac!!!! :-) |

That royal aka rugmaster was also used on watermatic and fairfax in the 70s around the same time as airway. All of the rugmaster pns seem to be rare but I want to say the watermatic has to be the rarest of these as I have never seen one. I have a very early kenmore fit all pn much like Fred's but without the light and it has a regular wall outlet cord and plug. It was sold (I've been told) to convert all older or suction only models into being used with a pn without upgrading to a new model.

Seek in the archives and ye shall find...
Some of the dates in this 2011 thread are slightly off, but close enough for jazz... My 1957 Lewyt Big Wheel 107E low profile Motorized Beater Sweeper has a rubber-stamped date of 1956 on the motor. It's been established to my satisfaction that Lewyt beat the 1958 Kenmore to market by a few months in 1957. The 107-E has a 115 vac 10-foot exterior power cord that straps to the hose and plugs into a 115V outlet on the vacuum body. That's what I'm using in my avatar pic. The 1958 111-E introduced the infamous low voltage 24 vdc Motorized Beater Sweeper that took its power from stepdown transformer windings on the main motor coils, through an internally wired hose and wands, as shown in the McCall's November 1958 advert shown in this thread. In hindsight, Lewyt should have utilized a stand-alone transformer next to the fan motor. Over time the heat generated by the motor melted the varnish on the secondary windings creating a nasty full strength amperage shock if exposed metal parts of the grounded wands and hose were touched. The 1960 121-E was already in production and hitting store stocks when the electrocutions were becoming reported. CLICK HERE TO GO TO aeoliandave's LINK |

What about Compact's "Always Beauty Clean" PN? Most of the PNs here on this post are rare; especially the Kenmore Power Mate that converts to a stick vac. |

Mike
I think its a case of chicken and egg - manufacturers dont fit them much here so people dont know about them to buy then, and as people are not aware of them to buy as they are not sufficiently promoted manufacturers dont sell them. Stupid, I know! Hoover were selling cleaners with PNs from the end of the 1970s and through the 1980s, and across quite a large part of its range - Freedoms, Sensotronics and Compacts - and they were very good. Perhaps if Electrolux had fitted them too, and they existed on similar electrolux models in other countries, it might have been different. At the time Miele would have been too small a player in the UK at the time to have much effect and even then they only supplied PNs on their TOL models. As far as I am aware Dyson have only fitted PNs in the UK to their DC35 & DC44 models although again they are supplied in cannisters in other countries. Al |

Rainbow R-1024 type B, issued 1976. Is the last version of the R-1024 to carry the "Rexair" script, as while the type series continued into 1977, the label gets a new "Rainbow" script.
Type A, issued 1974-1975, was similar but the A version used a 2-wire cordset and all R-1024s type B and onward used 3-wire cordsets until being replaced by the in-house design, model R-1650, in October 1980. ~Ben |

Would have been really cool if Hoover would have produced this power nozzle! As you can see, the patent was submitted in September of 1919. This pre-dates Airway by almost ten years. Really cool design!

ok here is a stab in the dark, everyone knows the filter queen pn came out in 1978 and was on the salmon colored 31 right?? Well I remember one time while talking with Mike Rodgers (I believe) from the Henry company and fellow vccc member and he said that Canada had one in 1968 for their filter queen and I looked a bit different. I saw a picture of it but can't remember what it looked like. If it wasn't Mike then I don't know who it was but can anyone shed some light on this?

As with Rainbow and earlier Luxes the power nozzle on Filter Queens was packed in a separate box.A dealer must have been using up overstock of previous nozzles to go with new shipment of vacs. |

Hey Philip:
The original Filter Queen PN was kind of a T shaped PN in white with the Filter Queen name on it. It was European made but I cant remember the company that made it. The first ones had a brown cord with a normal plug on it that ran to a plug on the machine. Later ones had a grey cord with the, now standard, PN plug on them. There were no special wands for it so it just attached to the standard S shaped wand via an adapter which was rivited into the elbow. I had one of them but lost it in the fire in April. Doug |

countryguy, I wondered if 1972 might have been the year the pn that we all knew as the filter queen pn came out. I was told it came out for sure in 1978 but my 31 is dated 1972 on the armature and so I had a feeling that was when they came out and now you confirmed that thanks!!
Doug and Jimmy, thanks so much for the info on the original filter queen pn. The one that I saw was infact white like Doug said but had forgot what it looked like. Whould that have been a 31 or another model? |

Regarding the Kenmore Powermate with long cord and plug discussed above. On ebay recently there was a white PN that was essentially the same as the one on the 1972 Sears Best canister that came in green and had the narrow width and big headlight housing on top. This one however, was white and had a long cord with regular wall plug on the end. I had assumed that it was for a central vac system as they typically got white PNs, but perhaps it was also a "fit all" design.

The L Shaped Whirlpool Power Nozzle was private labeled for Rexair in 1969. Complete with pistol grip electric hose, it was an option designed to "make a sale or save a sale" with the advent of shag carpeting. The Rainbow's second power nozzle was made by Whirlpool as well, but was the same small nozzle used on the commercial Oreck canister of the early 1970's. In 1974, Rexair began using Eureka's new Roto-Matic power nozzle, which continued until they made their own nozzle in 1980.
