A month or two ago i got my hands on a Hoover Platinum Lightweight and i figured i'd put the lightweight vacs i have to the test and see which one is the best performer
For the first test i used a textured rug a good amount of vacuums have had trouble cleaning this rug. I used crushed cracker for course dirt and sea salt for finer dirt
In this test the results were:
1. Simplcity Freedom
2. Oreck XL 21
3. Hoover Platinum
3. Oreck XL Ultra

In this test the Simplicity Freedom did the best it did leave behind a few pieces of cracker it did pick up the most salt
The Hoover picked up all the crackers but had trouble getting up the salt i would say it ranked
The Oreck XL 21 did leave a few pieces of cracker but it's salt pick up was slightly better than the Hoover
The Oreck XL Ultra did the worst it did get most of the cracker up but left the most salt

And test #2

blackheart's profile picture
For this test i did not vacuum for a week or so and to be sure each vacuum had defined areas i used these boards as dividers. i think i did a total of 16 passes with each machine and then went over the area with the DC07 to see what was left behind. After i used the dyson on the Freedom's area a lot of dirt was brought out, i think i went beyond the area i vacuumed with the Freedom. so i did the test again just past where the Oreck XL Ultra to see if i got the same result.

The results of the test were
1. Simplicity Freedom (Run #2)
2. Oreck XL-21
3. Oreck XL Ultra
4. Hoover Platinum
5. Simplicity Freedom (run #1) due to error

Ghetto? YES!

I wanted a white background to make the dirt easier to see and to compare. It's a little smaller than i had hoped it would be but you can still somewhat see the dirt

Definitely the Freedom if it's in the upright position while it's on it will pull itself around

Cool. Riccar makes great brushrolls on their vacuums. I wish more companies used metal brushrolls.

I never owned or used Orecks/Riccars/Simplicitys before in my life. I tried them out at the vacuum shops several times. My cousin in Las Vegas has the Oreck XL21 Power Team. She bought it in 2006. She loves it. I saw it but never used it.
