reality check

The vacuum is in Roseville MICHIGAN, a suburb of Detroit...MICHIGAN. Usually Craigslist items like this are local pick-up preferred. Imagine what it would cost to ship this out to the west coast assuming the seller knows how to disassemble and pack it properly?

Dave - been there done that.

I've....

bought items out of state before on craigslist. Often with issues however. If you read their policy, they advise against it....so you have to convince the seller you're not a scammer. And the only way you can really do that is to send a PO Money Order, not a cashier's check, not a bank draft, not a bank money order or wired Western Union funds. And once you get past that hurdle,  you're still at a serious disadvantage because you haven't seen the item in person. Also, you've just entered into a huge game of 'trust'.

The final hurdle is the shipping part....since they didn't list on ebay, they were not prepared to pack & send. They therefore may make a meager effort to send your item well-packed and you may be sorely disappointed with the actual condition of the unit(see first paragraph). No PayPal to back up your purchase and any shipping damage. UPS & FedEx take a very dim view of 'vintage' anything-if it's not readily market replaceable, they consider it junk. And forget about the PO and damage claims......
