Upholstery tool is Hoover from 40s/50s.Otherwise rare Kirby parts and a very hard to find box.Bag is probably newer than box and parts.

I'm looking for a functional hose to use so i don't know if it's best to buy a new one or the old one...it is kind of neat
So are the old attachments but i don't know if the bent tube would be best to use either
What were you looking for all the pieces minus the bag
The bag looks in sorta rough shape I think I'll pass on it...

Well I bought a fully restored to the 10's, 505 with all original pieces (trim belt lifter handle wheels except bag) for $100...Ive seen complete nice tool sets from the early 50's in original nice box on eBay go for $30 and $10 shipping that would fit...the original box had red writing on it I believe and I have no clue what to offer
It's neat and cool to have regardless but don't have much use for it

I don't know if that helps you with an idea of what you'd want for it I'd take all the stuff just no clue what it's worth, I'm looking for function as well an dont know if they're actually usable

I honestly wasn't looking to spend even $100.00...I still need other pieces to connect the hose to the machine and other tools...I also am not certain the handle will fit on the 505
I can't see spending a whole lot on old vacuum parts that may not even work for me if I could buy a whole new set and a new bag for less than $100...

Ok well Ido have the piece and if you just want the hose and atachments I will do how about 50 for all atachments and the hose? The best on the bag, hose and atachments is 100 but under that Ijust can't.

Does curved tube connect right to hose?

Kirby tools

caligula's profile picture
Hi Kirbykid:

In looking at the pictures I see you have some really great tools.

I'm an historian of a number of really old vacuum cleaners, and these include the non electric pumpers of the late 1800's. My main interests are Electrolux, Hoover and Kirby, and all of these date back to the first models.

In addition, I used to be a training manager for a number of Kirby branches around the country.

That bag goes with the first model that used color. My guess is 1953. The small handle thing was called a "lifter Grip." The hose and attachments date back to the
last of the Scott/Fetzer Home Sanitation systems, and the models 1-C, and 2-C circa 1935. As for the upholstry tool with the brush, no it's not Kirby. My guess is 1920's Hoover, most likely 541, or 543.

If you need answers to anything really old drop me a line.

Alex Taber.

Hose adapter

caligula's profile picture
Hi gameplayerjim89:

I'm a historian of the really old Kirby models.

James B. Kirby designed the tools for the Vacuette Electric, Scott & Fetzer, and early Kirby models. He was a real stickler for details, everthing had to fit that particular model only. Even today, there is no interchanging of parts. A Classic Omega rug nozzle on a Classic 111, and that sort of thing! The machines I've mentioned all used an adapter to attach the hose to the front of the cleaner, and another one to attach the hose to the exhaust port. The same was true with the dust bag, and handle pin. Each was slightly longer, thiner, fatter and so on, there was no interchanging of handles and lifter grips either! The rug tool, hose adapters, and so on only fit that model. In later years, this was used with the Crystalator, Handi-Butler, Mirical Head, and Rug Renevator. Interestingly however, this did not apply to the cords, here it was a one size fits all!

So check the model of your machine, matching the hose is not the only problem, make sure you have the right adapter.

Alex Taber

Need the right cord too!

caligula's profile picture
The female end of the plugs were rounded like those on the 512. I wish I had an adapter to fit the 505, but all of mine are for older models around 1930's.

Did you know that the logo on the belt lifter, bag, and assorted boxes was a copy of James B. Kirby's signiture?

Kirby 505

Hi James Looking at REPLY 4 it looks like you are ready to go It is the correct hose the adaptor on the hose also looks ok. You should note the extension tubes are metal the way they should be you will need to put the curved or straight tube on into the hose and add attatchments on that way. A few attatchments you show on reply DONT go with the 505 but that is ok. And as you no the bag is not correct however the all black bag looks really nice. All and all James you have a very, very nice Kirby. I love the sound of those 500 series Kirbys. i hope this helps Keep in touch Doug

Wait do you want me to ship it all inside the box? I didn't think you would cause it might get damaged but if you want it all in the kirby box and then stuffed in another box. I thought it would be shiped seperatly so it would be 50 more. But if you want it all inside the kirby box it shouldn't be that much more. Only about 10 more

i could put all the atachments in the kirby box, or i could ship an empty kirby box and another box with the atachments. i didnt want to put the atachments in the kirby box because i am afraid it will damage the box. that is why i said it would be alot because then i would have to ship 2 boxes. is it still confusing?

If you could list what I'm paying for, that would be great...
Could you possibly put the attachments inside the kirby box with peanuts or wrapped and put that in a slightly larger box? I don't know if that would work for you?

This sounds like a conversation that should be taken to personal email.  We really don't need to know about this.
